Franz Xaver Fieber
Franz Xaver Fieber (Prague, 1 March 1807 – Chrudim, 22 February 1872 ) was a German botanist and entomologist. He was the son of Franz Anton Fieber and Maria Anna née Hantsehl. He studied economics, management science and modern languages at the Czech Technical University in Prague from 1824 to 1828. He began work in finance (civil service) before becoming a magistrate in Chrudim in Bohemia. Fieber was a Member of the Deutsche Akademie der Naturforscher Leopoldina. He was the author of "Synopsis der europäischen Orthopteren" (1854), ''Die europäischen Hemiptera'' (1860), and numerous other publications on insects. He worked notably on insect wings. ''Aiolopus thalassinus'' is a species of grasshopper belonging to the family Acrididae, subfamily Oedipodinae. It is present in many countries of Europe (but not the British Isles or Scandinavia), and in the Afrotropical realm to Asia and the Pacific islands. The colouration of this species is generally from clear brown to dark brown. Females have a size of 21–29 mm and males of 15–19 mm. Grasshoppers are a group of insects belonging to the suborder Caelifera. They are among what is possibly the most ancient living group of chewing herbivorous insects, dating back to the early Triassic around 250 million years ago. Grasshoppers are typically ground-dwelling insects with powerful hind legs which allow them to escape from threats by leaping vigorously. As hemimetabolous insects, they do not undergo complete metamorphosis; they hatch from an egg into a Nymph (biology), nymph or "hopper" which undergoes five moults, becoming more similar to the adult insect at each developmental stage.
