Ahane GAA
Ahane GAA Club is a Gaelic Athletic Association club in Lisnagry, County Limerick, Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The club is affiliated to the Limerick GAA, Limerick County Board and fields teams in both hurling and Gaelic football. History Located in the Ahane, County Limerick, Ahane, Castleconnell and Montpelier, County Limerick, Montpelier areas of County Limerick, East Limerick, Ahane GAA Club was founded on 22 November 1926. The new club played its first ever match three weeks later, but lost out to Newport GAA, Newport. The Ahane GAA Club committee affiliated both junior and senior teams for the respective championships in 1927. The Ahane club was in its infancy when it made the breakthrough by winning the Limerick Senior Hurling Championship, Limerick SHC title after a defeat of Croom GAA, Croom in 1931. All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship
The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest-tier competition for inter-county hurling in Ireland and has been contested in every year except one since 1887 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, 1887. 1997 National Hurling League
The 1997 National Hurling League (known as the Church & General National Hurling League for sponsorship reasons) was the 66th season of the National Hurling League. Structural changes At a meeting of Central Council on 18 May 1996, the GAA decided to scrap winter league hurling for a two-year trial period. It was also decided, by a margin of 23 votes to 15, to complete the National Hurling League within the calendar year. After further negotiations the GAA decided to run the league on a March to October basis. Other provisions included the playing of three matches in March, two in April and one each in May and June. The league final was to be played in October. Play-offs to determine the standings of teams within the divisions were also abandoned in favour of using scoring averages. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into five divisions, with seven teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. Oliver Moran (born 7 November 1975 in Castleconnell, County Limerick) is an Irish people, Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Ahane GAA, Ahane and was a member of the Limerick GAA, Limerick senior inter-county team from 1997 to 2009. Tom Morrissey (hurler)
Thomas Morrissey (born 29 May 1996) is an Irish hurler who plays as a left wing-forward for club side Ahane and at inter-county level with the Limerick senior hurling team. Early life Morrissey was born in Castleconnell, County Limerick. His brother, Dan Morrissey, also plays for Ahane and the Limerick senior hurling team. Playing career University During his studies at the University of Limerick, Morrissey was selected for the college's senior hurling team. On 24 February 2018, he won a Fitzgibbon Cup medal following UL's 2-21 to 2-15 defeat of Dublin City University in the final. Daniel Morrissey (born 20 April 1993) is an Irish hurler who plays as a left wing-back for club side Ahane and at inter-county level with the Limerick senior hurling team.
