Agnes Van Stolk
Agnes Johanna Elisabeth van Stolk (1898-1980) was a Dutch artist. Biography Stolk was born on 16 November 1898 in Hof van Delft. She attended the '' Vrije Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten'' (Free Academy of Visual Art) in the Hague. She studied with Berend Adrianus Bongers, Francis de Erdely, , , and Johan Tielens. Her work was included in the 1939 exhibition and sale ''Onze Kunst van Heden'' (Our Art of Today) at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. She was a member of the ''Haagse Kunstkring'' (The Hague Art Circle) and ' (Pictura drawing society). Francis de Erdely ( Hungarian: Erdélyi Ferenc) (May 3, 1904 – November 28, 1959) was a Hungarian-American artist who was renowned in Europe and the United States for his powerful figure paintings and drawings as well as for his teaching abilities. Biography Francis De Erdely was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1904. De Erdely first studied at the Royal Academy of Arts in Budapest (1919–1924), as well as the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando (Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando) in Madrid and the prestigious Sorbonne and Ecole du Louvre in Paris. De Erdely's technical abilities, brushwork, and composition were based in European classicism. Politics began to inform his work when Fascism began to gain ground in Europe. Onze Kunst van Heden (Contemporary Artists/Our Art of Today) was an exhibition held in the winter of 1939 through 1940 at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Due to the threat of invasion in the years leading up to World War II, the Netherlands' government stored many items from the Rijksmuseum's permanent collection. The resulting empty gallery space was utilized by contemporary Dutch artists to exhibit and sell their art. It was organized by the director of the Rijksmuseum .
