''Aglaonema modestum'', called Chinese evergreen, green-for-ten-thousand-years, and lily of China, is a species of flowering plant in the genus ''Aglaonema'', native to Bangladesh, Thailand, Laos, Vietnam, and southeast and south-central China. In these areas, it is found in tropical swamps and rainforests. Cultivation It has gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. ''A. modestum'' is typically tall and wide. It occasionally produces white spathe-and-spadix flowers that give way to oval-shaped, reddish fruits that are long. Its lance-shaped leaves measure , and are borne on stalks that arise from a central growing point. ''A. modestum'' requires a shaded location, and should not be exposed to temperatures below , which can damage the foliage. It cannot endure direct sunlight and is a good choice for dimly lit rooms. The Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory (commonly and locally known as the Belle Isle Conservatory) is a greenhouse and a botanical garden located on Belle Isle, a island park located on the Detroit River within Detroit, Michigan. Heinrich Wilhelm Schott (7 January 1794 – 5 March 1865) was an Austrian botanist. He is known for his extensive work on aroids ( Araceae). Biography Schott was born on 7 January 1794 in Brno, Moravia. He studied botany, agriculture and chemistry at the University of Vienna, where he was a pupil of Joseph Franz von Jacquin (1766–1839). He was a participant in the Austrian Brazil Expedition from 1817 to 1821. In 1828 he was appointed ''Hofgärtner'' (royal gardener) in Vienna, later serving as director of the Imperial Gardens at Schönbrunn Palace (1845). Adolf Engler
Heinrich Gustav Adolf Engler (25 March 1844 – 10 October 1930) was a German botanist. He is notable for his work on plant taxonomy and phytogeography, such as ''Die natürlichen Pflanzenfamilien'' (''The Natural Plant Families''), edited with Karl Anton Eugen Prantl, Karl A.
