Agdenes Municipality
Agdenes is a List of former municipalities of Norway, former municipality in Trøndelag Counties of Norway, county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1896 until its dissolution in 2020 when it became part of Orkland Municipality. It was part of the Fosen Districts of Norway, region. The administrative centre was the village of Selbekken. Other villages in the municipality included Ingdalen, Lensvik, Vassbygda, Agdenes, Vassbygda, Vernes, Trøndelag, Vernes, and Leksa. The Brekstad–Valset Ferry connected Agdenes to the town of Brekstad in Ørland Municipality on the other side of the Trondheimsfjorden. At the time of its dissolution, the municipality was the 270th largest by area out of the 422 municipalities in Norway. Agdenes Municipality is the 343rd most populous municipality in Norway with a population of 1,693. Agdenes Church
Agdenes Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Orkland Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the village of Vernes along the Trondheimsleia in the north part of the municipality, about southwest of Vassbygda. It is the main church for the Agdenes parish which is part of the Orkdal prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nidaros. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1857 using plans drawn up by the architect Christian Heinrich Grosch. The church seats about 200 people. History According to the (the saga of the sons of Magnus) in the Heimskringla, the first Agdenes Church was built by King Øystein during the early 12th century (probably before the year 1123). The first church was located at Agdenes, on a peninsula near the confluence of the Trondheimsfjorden and the Stjørnfjorden, about northeast of the present site of the church. Agdenes Lighthouse
The Agdenes Lighthouse or Ringflua is a lighthouse on the Trondheimsfjord in Orkland Municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. The lighthouse sits just offshore at a 90 degree bend in the fjord which leads to the city of Trondheim. The old lighthouse sits on the shore, just a short distance from the present light. The lighthouse is only accessible by boat. It is located about east of Vassbygda. About across the fjord to the north is Brekstad in Ørland Municipality and about across the fjord to the southeast is the village of Hasselvika in Indre Fosen Municipality. History The original lighthouse building was built in 1804 near the shore of the Trondheimsfjord. That building was rebuilt in 1828. In 1984, the old building was closed and a new light was built on Ringflua, a tiny rock in the fjord, just off the shoreline. Trondheimsfjorden
The Trondheim Fjord or Trondheimsfjorden (), an inlet of the Norwegian Sea, is Norway's List of Norwegian fjords, third-longest fjord at long. It is located in the west-central part of the country in Trøndelag county, and it stretches from Ørland Municipality in the west to Steinkjer Municipality in the north, passing the city of Trondheim (city), Trondheim on its way. Its maximum depth is , in the channel between Orkland Municipality and Indre Fosen Municipality. The largest islands in the fjord are Ytterøya and Tautra; the small island of Munkholmen is located near the harbor of Trondheim; and there are several islands at the entrance of the fjord. The narrow ''Skarnsundet'' is crossed by the Skarnsund Bridge. The part of the fjord to the north of the strait is referred to as the ''Beitstadfjorden''.
