African Academy Of Sciences
The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) is a non-aligned, non-political, not-for-profit, pan-African learned society formed in 1985. The AAS elects fellows ( FAAS) and affiliates. The AAS also awards the Obasanjo Prize for Scientific Discovery and Technological Innovation every two years to an outstanding scientist who contributed to the development of the continent. History The Academy was founded in 1983 following a proposal presented by entomologist Thomas Odhiambo and Mohamed H.A. Hassan ( The World Academy of Sciences president at the time) at the inaugural meeting of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), in Trieste, Italy. Odhiambo led a taskforce on the creation of The Academy, which presented its recommendations at a meeting convened on 10 December 1985. Participants at the meeting unanimously adopted the recommendations, turned the gathering into a General Assembly, and drafted and adopted the Academy's founding constitution, which has since been updated. Ahmadou Lamine Ndiaye
Ahmadou Lamine Ndiaye (born 20 May 1937) is a former professor of Veterinary Sciences from Senegal who has held many senior administrative positions in African educational institutions and organizations. Birth and education Ahmadou Lamine Ndiaye was born on 20 May 1937 in Saint-Louis, Senegal. He attended the Lycée Faidherbe in Saint-Louis for his secondary education between 1950 and 1957. He studied at the Lycée Marcelin Berthelot de Saint-Maur-des-Fossés, France for a year, and then was admitted to the National Veterinary School of Lyon (''Ecole Nationale Vétérinaire de Lyon''), where he studied from 1958 to 1962. Félix Malu Wa Kalenga
Félix Malu wa Kalenga (September 22, 1936 — April 22, 2011) was a Congolese emeritus professor of Nuclear Physics and a scientist. He was a founding member of the Third World Academy of Science (TWAS). He was a professor at Lovanium University and a Dean of the Polytechnic Faculty of the University of Kinshasa. He was also a commissioner of the general commission for atomic energy (CGEA) in the DRC and a director general of the regional center for nuclear studies in Kinshasa. Henri Hogbe Nlend (born 23 December 1939) is a Cameroonian mathematician, university professor, former government minister and presidential candidate. Biography Henri Hogbe Nlend was a professor at the University of Yaoundé, and at the University of Bordeaux. In 1976, at a meeting of the International Mathematical Union it was decided to form an African Mathematical Union. Aderemi Kuku
Aderemi Oluyomi Kuku (20 March 1941 – 13 February 2022) was a Nigerian mathematician and academic, known for his contributions to the fields of algebraic K-theory and non-commutative geometry. Born in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, Nigeria, Kuku began his academic journey at Makerere University College and the University of Ibadan, where he earned his B.Sc. in Mathematics, followed by his M.Sc. and Ph.D. under Joshua Leslie and Hyman Bass.
