An active-matrix liquid-crystal display (AMLCD) is an extremely common type of liquid-crystal display (LCD). Having supplanted passive-matrix LCDs in general use, in common vernacular, an active-matrix LCD is also simply referred to as a LCD. As of 2025, the term "AMLCD" is uncommon as a matter of technical jargon; instead, due to their ubiquity, different ''types'' of active-matrix liquid crystal displays are usually specified — TFT LCD, IPS LCD, MicroLED, and QLED are but just a few examples. Various types of AMLCDs are used as flat-panel displays in many different applications, including televisions, computer monitors, in-vehicle infotainment systems, notebook computers, tablet computers and smartphones. In technology, response time is the time a system or functional unit takes to react to a given input. Computing In computing, the responsiveness of a service, how long a system takes to respond to a request for service, is measured through the response time. That service can be anything from a memory fetch, to a disk IO, to a complex database query, or loading a full web page. Active-matrix
Active matrix is a type of addressing scheme used in flat panel displays. It is a method of switching individual elements of a flat panel display, known as pixels. Each pixel is attached to a transistor and capacitor that ''actively'' maintain the pixel state while other pixels are being addressed, in contrast with the older passive matrix technology in which each pixel must maintain its state passively, without being driven by circuitry. Active matrix technology was invented by Bernard J. Lechner at RCA, using MOSFETs (metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistors).
