Acid
In computer science, ACID ( atomicity, consistency, isolation, durability) is a set of properties of database transactions intended to guarantee data validity despite errors, power failures, and other mishaps. In the context of databases, a sequence of database operations that satisfies the ACID properties (which can be perceived as a single logical operation on the data) is called a ''transaction''. For example, a transfer of funds from one bank account to another, even involving multiple changes such as debiting one account and crediting another, is a single transaction. In 1983, Andreas Reuter and Theo Härder coined the acronym ''ACID'', building on earlier work by Jim Gray who named atomicity, consistency, and durability, but not isolation, when characterizing the transaction concept. These four properties are the major guarantees of the transaction paradigm, which has influenced many aspects of development in database systems. According to Gray and Reuter, the IBM In ...

Stoner Rock
Stoner rock, also known as stoner metal or stoner doom, is a rock music fusion genre that combines elements of doom metal with psychedelic rock and acid rock. The genre emerged during the early 1990s and was pioneered foremost by Kyuss and Sleep (band), Sleep. Characteristics Stoner rock is typically slow-to-mid tempo and features a heavily Distortion (music), distorted, Groove (music), groove-laden bass guitar, bass-heavy sound, melodic vocals, and "retro" production. Due to the similarities between stoner and sludge metal, there is often a crossover between the two genres. This hybrid has traits of both styles, but generally lacks stoner metal's laid back atmosphere and its usage of psychedelic music, psychedelia. Bands such as Weedeater (band), Weedeater, High on Fire and Electric Wizard creatively fuse both styles. Terminology The descriptor "stoner rock" may originate from the title of the 1997 Roadrunner Records compilation ''Burn One Up! Music for Stoners''. Desert rock ...

The Very Beast Of G
''The'' () is a grammatical article in English, denoting persons or things that are already or about to be mentioned, under discussion, implied or otherwise presumed familiar to listeners, readers, or speakers. It is the definite article in English. ''The'' is the most frequently used word in the English language; studies and analyses of texts have found it to account for seven percent of all printed English-language words. It is derived from gendered articles in Old English which combined in Middle English and now has a single form used with nouns of any gender. The word can be used with both singular and plural nouns, and with a noun that starts with any letter. This is different from many other languages, which have different forms of the definite article for different genders or numbers. Pronunciation In most dialects, "the" is pronounced as (with the voiced dental fricative followed by a schwa) when followed by a consonant sound, and as (homophone of the archaic pro ...

Public (album)
''Public'' is the third album (the first on a major label) by Emm Gryner, released in 1998. The album, released on Mercury Records, was not a strong seller, and Gryner was subsequently dropped from the label after Mercury was acquired by Universal Music. She revived her own independent label, Dead Daisy Records, for her next release, ''Science Fair'', which sold significantly more copies than ''Public'' despite its more limited distribution and marketing. In 2006, Gryner released ''PVT'', a limited edition album featuring rerecorded versions of songs from ''Public''. ''PVT'' was initially released only as a bonus disc with preordered copies of Gryner's 2006 album '' The Summer of High Hopes''. It was later offered as a separate purchase. Music For Our Mother Ocean
''MOM: Music for Our Mother Ocean'' is a compilation album trilogy produced by Surfdog Records to benefit the Surfrider Foundation. The albums feature original songs as well as covers – many sharing a surfing or summer theme – by a range of popular artists. Reception ''Entertainment Weekly''s Mike Flaherty gave ''Volume 1'' a "B" rating. He called the compilation less sanctimonious than traditional benefit albums, noting the number of celebrity artists, and he singled-out Pearl Jam's cover of the "loopy" "Gremmie Out of Control" and Helmet's "ham-fisted" cover of "Army of Me". Marcus Greville of the ''Green Left Weekly'' stated that due to the inconsistent song styles the album was "appealing, but difficult to become engaged in". He gave the album 7/10, and recommended the album as a "gift for a surfer friend". David Yonke of the ''Toledo Blade'' called it "one of the most enjoyable compilation albums to be issued in a while", but noted that the "MOM" abbreviation ...

Day
A day is the time period of a full rotation of the Earth with respect to the Sun. On average, this is 24 hours (86,400 seconds). As a day passes at a given location it experiences morning, noon, afternoon, evening, and night. This daily cycle drives circadian rhythms in many organisms, which are vital to many life processes. A collection of sequential days is organized into calendars as dates, almost always into weeks, months and years. A solar calendar organizes dates based on the Sun's annual cycle, giving consistent start dates for the four seasons from year to year. A lunar calendar organizes dates based on the Moon's lunar phase. In common usage, a day starts at midnight, written as 00:00 or 12:00 am in 24- or 12-hour clocks, respectively. Because the time of midnight varies between locations, time zones are set up to facilitate the use of a uniform standard time. Other conventions are sometimes used, for example the Jewish religious calendar counts days from suns ...

Acid (hip Hop Group)
Acid (often written ACID; my, အက်စစ်, ) is a Burmese hip hop group often credited with releasing Burma's first hip hop album, ''Beginning'', in 2000. Two of the group's founders were later imprisoned for the group's allegedly pro-democracy lyrics. Beginning Acid was founded by Zayar Thaw (26 March 1981 – 23 July 2022), Annaga (Born 19 May 1979), Hein Zaw (12 June 1981 – 10 April 2006) And Yan Yan Chan (Born 5 December 1979). In 2000, Acid released Burma's first hip-hop album, ''Beginning''. Despite predictions of failure by many in the Burmese music industry, ''Beginning'' remained on the number-one position of the Burmese charts for more than two months. A Democratic Voice of Burma reporter described the group's music as blending a "combative, angry style with indigenous poeticism". The band's repertoire has been said to contain many "thinly veiled attacks" on Burma's military government, the State Peace and Development Council. ''The Independent'' stated tha ...

Acid (band)
Acid was a Japanese rock band originally created by Hideki after Siam Shade disbanded. History Acid formed in August 2003 through auditions held by Hideki. Their live setlist was made up of both of Hideki's solo albums at the beginning and, after one year of excessive touring through Japan, the group went into the studio at the end of 2004 to record their first album. ''Acid 1.5: Punk Drunker'' was released in March 2005. With the end of Siam Shade, Hideki didn't want people to always compare the two bands, which is why he chose to change his position to behind the keyboard, before later leaving Acid completely in June 2005. Furthermore, he stated after his departure that Acid is his pride and that he would like to see them perform live at Tokyo Dome one day. However, after losing a few more members (Kim left in 2006 to join the mandatory military services back in Korea, Junpei left in 2008 due to health problems, along with Masamitsu who left for unknown reasons), the th ...
