Sukhen Das
Sukhen Das (28 July 1938 – 4 April 2004) was an Indian actor, director, screenwriter and story writer of Bengali cinema. Early life and education Das was born as Sukhendranath Das in Kolkata. He spent parts of his childhood in an orphanage i.e The Ramkrishna Society-Anath Bhandar. He did not finish his education because of financial problems. Later he fled the orphanage and took shelter in a doctor's chamber. During this time he roamed near film studios, and he was spotted by director Debnarayan Gupta who gave him a role as a child actor (Master Sukhen) in the movie ''Dasiputra'' (1949). Career Das acted in many commercially successful movies including ''Pratishodh'' (1981) and ''Maa Ek Mandir'' (1988). His roles in the movies ''Lalu Bhulu'' (1959), ''Dhonyi Meye'' (1971), ''Rajnandini'' (1980) and ''Dadamoni'' (1984) earned him critical acclaim. Swarup Dutta
Swarup Dutta (22 June 1941 – 17 July 2019) was a Bengalis, Bengali actor. His son Saron Dutta is a director in Cinema of West Bengal, Bengali film industry. Early life Dutta was born in famous Dutta family of Hatkhola, Kolkata in 1941. In 1958 he passed Matriculation from the South Point School and completed I.A. from Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira. Dutta graduated in economics from St. Xavier's College, Kolkata. Career During his school days Dutta came into contact with veteran actor Utpal Dutt. He also performed with Utpal Dutt on stage. First breakthrough of his career is Apanjan, a popular drama film of Tapan Sinha released in 1968. This movie won the National Film Award. He played the role of hero and versatile parts in a number of Bengali films of the late 60s and early 70s. Dutta also acted in Bollywood, Hindi film Uphaar with Jaya Bhaduri in 1971. Shekhar Chattopadhyay
Shekhar Chatterjee (1924–1990) was an Indian actor and film director. Career Chatterjee was born in Kolkata in 1924. He began his career in the Bengali theatre in the 1950s. He was associated with a number of leftist theatre groups, including the Communist Party's Indian People's Theatre Association, Utpal Dutt's Little Theatre Group, and Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop, as well as his own group, Theatre Unit, which he formed in 1958. As a stage actor he was well known for his Shakespearean roles and for playing Shardul Singh in Dutt's 1965 play ''Kallol''. His directorial work focused on works by German-language playwrights Bertold Brecht, Friedrich Dürrenmatt, Peter Handke, and Franz Xaver Kroetz. Chatterjee's Brecht productions were rarely adapted to a local setting, and while critics unanimously praised this approach as "authentic", his colleague Dutt attacked it for failing to communicate Brecht's political symbolism to an Indian audience. Gyanesh Mukherjee
Gyanesh Mukherjee (5 July 1926 – 8 May 2008) was a Bengali actor, director and theater personality. Career He was involved with Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA). In his film career, Mukherjee worked with number of famous directors like Ritwik Ghatak, Mrinal Sen and Tapan Sinha. Since the late 1950s to the 1970s, he played a prolific role in cinema as well as theatre. In 1973 he directed the film ''Achena Atithi'' which was remade in Hindi as ''Anjane Mehmaan'' in 1975.
