Academy Of Art Urban Knights
The Academy of Art Urban Knights are the 14 varsity athletic teams that represent Academy of Art University, located in San Francisco, California, in NCAA Division II intercollegiate sports. The Urban Knights compete as members of the Pacific West Conference. History The university's athletic department was established in 2006 with the hiring of Jamie Williams as Athletic Director. In July 2009, Academy of Art began the three-year transition process to become a member of the NCAA. At that time, they joined the Pacific West Conference in Division II. This process was completed successfully with the Urban Knights being granted full membership privileges by the NCAA in July 2012. The men's basketball team earned their first victory against a Division I team on November 28, 2021 when they beat the UC Davis Aggies 79–60. The Academy of Art University (AAU or ART U), formerly Academy of Art College and Richard Stephens Academy of Art, is a private for-profit art school in San Francisco, California. It was founded as the Academy of Advertising Art by Richard S. Stephens in 1929. Pacific West Conference
The Pacific West Conference (also known as the PacWest) is a college athletic conference affiliated with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) at the Division II level. Member institutions are located in California and Hawaii. The conference sponsors the following sports: basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis and track & field outdoor for both men and women; baseball for men only; softball and volleyball for women only. NCAA Division II
NCAA Division II (D-II) is an intermediate-level division of competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). It offers an alternative to both the larger and better-funded Division I and to the scholarship-free environment offered in Division III. Before 1973, the NCAA's smaller schools were grouped together in the College Division. In 1973, the College Division split in two when the NCAA began using numeric designations for its competitions. The College Division members who wanted to offer athletic scholarships or compete against those who did became Division II, while those who chose not to offer athletic scholarships became Division III. Kezar Pavilion
Kezar Pavilion, located adjacent to Kezar Stadium, is an indoor arena in the southeast corner of Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, California, United States (US). Built in 1924, the Pavilion seats 4,000 people and is owned and operated by the City of San Francisco. The San Francisco Rumble, of the American Basketball Association, and the Academy of Art Urban Knights, an NCAA Division II school, call Kezar Pavilion their home court. Sports The University of San Francisco basketball team used Kezar Pavilion before War Memorial Gymnasium was constructed. Jamie Earl Williams (born February 27, 1960) is a former professional American football tight end who played for 12 seasons in the National Football League (NFL), mainly for the Houston Oilers and the San Francisco 49ers. UC Davis Aggies Men's Basketball
The UC Davis Aggies men's basketball team represents University of California, Davis in Davis, California, United States. The team currently competes in the Big West Conference. The 2020–21 season is UC Davis’ tenth year under head coach Jim Les. During his tenure with the Aggies, the men's basketball team earned its first Big West championship and first NCAA Men's Basketball Division I Tournament. Brandon Clifford Poulson (born February 16, 1990) is an American professional baseball pitcher in Minor League Baseball who is currently a free agent. The Minnesota Twins signed Poulson out of the Academy of Art University, when he demonstrated that he could throw a fastball of . Career Poulson attended Piner High School in Santa Rosa, California. He tried out for the school's baseball team, but did not make it as a freshman. After he graduated, he enrolled at Santa Rosa Junior College, where he played American football as a linebacker for two years. After a year, Poulson went to work for his father's excavation business as a truck driver. His father encouraged him to give sports another try, so he joined a Sunday night league. The Minnesota Twins are an American professional baseball team based in Minneapolis. The Twins compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) Central Division. Mobolade Ajomale
Mobolade Abimbola Ajomale (born 31 August 1995) is a Canadian sprinter. He competed in the 60 metres event at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships. He won a bronze medal as part Canada's 2016 Olympic team in the 4 x 100 m relay. Ajomale was part of the 4 x 100 m relay team, they finished third in their heats. In the final the team came agonizingly close to a medal and replaced Ajomale with Andre de Grasse. The team was an agonizingly close 0.02 seconds behind the third place United States team. However, the USA team was later disqualified for an improper baton pass, handing the bronze to Canada and Brown who ran the final as a team with anchor De Grasse, Brendon Rodney, Akeem Haynes, and Aaron Brown. In August 2017, Ajomale competed in the 2017 World Championships in Athletics representing Canada in the 4 x 100 metres relay.
