Abertillery Excelsiors A.F.C. are a Welsh football club from the town of Abertillery, Blaenau Gwent in South Wales. Formed in 2000 as Tillery FC, they have played in the Welsh Football League. The team play in the Gwent County League Premier Division, tier 4 of the Welsh football pyramid. History At the end of the 1999–2000 season, two neighbouring clubs, Cwmtillery and Abertillery Town forged an alliance, and played under the club name Tillery FC until the close of the 2004–05 season. Abertillery (; ) is a town and community (Wales), community in Blaenau Gwent County Borough, Wales. It is located in the Ebbw Fach Valley, Ebbw Fach valley, and the Monmouthshire (historic), historic county of Monmouthshire. The surrounding landscape borders the Brecon Beacons National Park and the Blaenavon World heritage Site. Formerly a major coal mining centre the Abertillery area was transformed in the 1990s using EU and other funding to return to a greener environment. Situated on the A467 the town is north of the M4 motorway (Great Britain), M4 and south of the A465 road, A465 "Heads of the Valleys" trunk road. It is about by road from Cardiff and from Bristol. The Welsh Football League Division Two, (last known as the ''Nathanielcars.co.uk Welsh League Division Two'', for sponsorship reasons) was a football league and forms the fourth level of the Welsh football league system in South Wales. If the team which finishes top of the division has good enough ground facilities, traditionally it was promoted to the Welsh Football League Division One and is replaced by the team finishing bottom of Division One. The team finishing in bottom position is relegated to the Welsh Football League Division Three.
