Abbey Of Tongerlo
Tongerlo Abbey is a Premonstratensian monastery at Tongerlo in Westerlo near Antwerp, Belgium. History It was founded in 1128 in honour of the Blessed Virgin Mary, by Giselbert of Kasterlee, who not only gave the land, but also himself became a lay brother in the new community. The first monks were sent from St. Michael's Abbey, Antwerp, under Henry, who had come with Norbert of Xanten, Saint Norbert, founder of the Premonstratensian Order, to Antwerp to extirpate the Tanchelmite heresies. The charter of its foundation was signed, amongst others, by Bernard of Clairvaux and by Waltman, first abbot of Antwerp. The Bishop of Cambrai granted synodal rights to the abbots. The Diocese of 's-Hertogenbosch () is a Latin Church ecclesiastical jurisdiction or diocese of the Catholic Church in the Netherlands. The modern diocese was created in 1853. It is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Utrecht. It is currently led by bishop Gerard de Korte. Its see is St John's Cathedral, 's-Hertogenbosch. The ''Biographie nationale de Belgique'' (; ) is a biographical dictionary of Belgium. It was published by the Royal Academy of Belgium in 44 volumes between 1866 and 1986. A continuation series, entitled the ''Nouvelle Biographie Nationale'' (, ''New National Biography''), has been published by the Royal Academy of Science, Letters and Fine Arts of Belgium since 1988, with volume 16 appearing in 2023. Corpus Christi Priory
Corpus Christi Priory was a Catholic Premonstratensian priory in Manchester, England. The church The Norbertine canons regular first came to Manchester in 1889 from the Belgian Abbey of Tongerlo and they built Corpus Christi Basilica in the Miles Platting area of the city. The church was designed by William Telford Gunson. Its foundation stone was laid on 14 July 1906 by Bishop Louis Charles Casartelli, and the church was opened the following year on 5 November 1907. The basilica was later designated a Grade II listed building. Corpus Christi became an independent canonry of the Premonstratensian order in 2004. The Norbertine canons continued to serve there until 2007, when mounting repair and maintenance costs forced its closure. The final Mass was celebrated on 27 April 2007. Thomas Louis Heylen OPraem (1856–1941) was a Belgian prelate of the Catholic Church who served as the twenty-sixth bishop of Namur in Belgium (1899–1941). He also served as President of the Pontifical Committee for International Eucharistic Congresses. Francis Wichmans
Francis Wichmans (1596–1661), in religion Augustinus, was a Premonstratensian spiritual author, missionary, and abbot of Tongerlo Abbey. In the last capacity he sat in the First Estate of the States of Brabant. Life Wichmans was born in Antwerp on 7 January 1596, son of Godewart Wijchmans and Catlijn van den Eynde, and was baptised in St. James' Church, Antwerp the same day. As a teenager he entered Tongerlo Abbey, being clothed in the habit on 21 September 1612 and taking the name in religion Augustinus. He made his profession on 22 September 1613, and was ordained priest 4 March 1620. Peter Janssens van Kalmthout was a Norbertine priest from the Duchy of Brabant who was murdered by Dutch rebels on the night of 16 April 1572. Hendrik Bosch (priest)
Hendrik Bosch (born 26 February 1776 – 9 March 1864) was a Dutch military officer and colonial government official, who in his later life made a career in the administration on the Dutch Gold Coast. Biography Bosch was born in Spanbroek to Bernardus Bosch and Elisabeth Struis. He began his military career in 1800 and participated in various military campaigns. As a soldier in the French Napoleonic Army, he participated in the Russian Campaign of 1812 and in the German Campaign of 1813. He then switched sides and fought for the Netherlands against France in Napoleon's Hundred Days. During the Belgian Revolution, Bosch defended the citadel of Liège.
