A Yankee From The West
A Yankee from the West is a 1915 silent romantic drama film directed by George Siegmann and starring Wallace Reid and Seena Owen. Based on the novel of the same name by Opie Read. Plot Billy "Hell-in-the-Mud" Milford is a Harvard graduate who has "gone bad," and is sent to a small western town as a station agent. Shortly after starting his job, he loses it due to his heavy drinking. His friend Jim Dorsey asks him to assist in holding up the railroad superintendent and paymaster who are on their way to pay mine workers. After the robbery, Billy's residence is raided by the police but they fail to turn up the stolen money. Gunhild, niece of the boarding house proprietor, has fallen in love with Billy and insists on his innocence. Her faith in him makes him want to go straight, he rents a farm and she gains a position as a traveling companion for a professor's wife and educates herself. George Siegmann
George A. Siegmann (also credited as George Seigmann; February 8, 1882 – June 22, 1928) was an American actor and film director in the silent film era. His work includes roles in notable productions such as ''The Birth of a Nation'' (1915), ''Intolerance'' (1916), ''The Three Musketeers'' (1921), ''Oliver Twist'' (1922), '' The Cat and the Canary'' (1927), and ''The Man Who Laughs'' (1928). The ''Moving Picture World'' was an influential early trade journal for the American film industry, from 1907 to 1927. An industry powerhouse at its height, ''Moving Picture World'' frequently reiterated its independence from the film studios. In 1911, the magazine bought out ''Views and Film Index''. Its reviews illustrate the standards and tastes of film in its infancy, and shed light on story content in those early days. By 1914, it had a reported circulation of approximately 15,000. Fred Gamble (born Fred Alvin Gambold, October 26, 1868 – February 17, 1939) was an American film actor. He appeared in more than 130 films between 1913 and 1928. He was sometimes billed as Fred Gambold. Biography Gamble was born in Indianapolis, Indiana. At age 15, he left his home to join a minstrel show, beginning his career as an entertainer. He performed in vaudeville as a member of the Queen City Four and acted in stock theater. In 1912 he became a part of the American Film Company. On February 17, 1939, Gamble died in Hollywood, California, at 70.
