''A Street in Palermo'' () is a 2013 Italian drama film written and directed by Emma Dante. It was screened in the main competition section at the 70th Venice International Film Festival. Elena Cotta won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress. Plot During hot and sunny Sunday afternoon in Palermo, two women, Rosa and Clara, who have come to celebrate a friend's wedding, get lost in the streets of the city and end up in tiny alley: via Castellana Bandiera (a road that actually exists in the area of Mount Pellegrino). At the same moment another car, driven by Samira and with the Calafiore family crammed inside, arrives in the opposite direction and enters the same street. Neither Rosa nor Samira, an old and stubborn woman driving her car, intend to give way to each other. Emma Dante
Emma Dante (; born 6 April 1967) is an Italian playwright, theatre director and stage actress. She wrote, directed and starred in the 2013 film '' A Street in Palermo''. She later directed numerous operas, including Richard Strauss' '' Feuersnot'' and Hans Werner Henze's '' Gisela!'' in Palermo, and ''Carmen'' at the Teatro alla Scala. Mount Pellegrino
Mount Pellegrino (; ) is a hill facing east on the bay of Palermo, Sicily, southern Italy, located north of the city. It is high with panorama views of the city, its surrounding mountains and the Tyrrhenian Sea. Volpi Cup For Best Actress
The Volpi Cup for Best Actress is an award presented by the Venice Film Festival. It is given by the festival jury in honor of an actress who has delivered an outstanding performance from the films in the competition slate. It is named in honor of Count Giuseppe Volpi di Misurata, the founder of the festival. The 1st ceremony was held in 1932, when Helen Hayes received the Volpi Cup for the title role in '' The Sin of Madelon Claudet'' (1931)—this was the only time that the award was chosen by public voting.
