"A Season in Hell" is a 1964 Australian TV movie broadcast on the ABC which originally aired as an episode of '' Wednesday Theatre''. It was directed by Henri Safran from a script by Patricia Hooker and was shot at the ABC's Gore Hill Studios in Sydney. "A Season in Hell" aired on 1 April 1964 in Sydney, on 22 April 1964 in Brisbane, and on 29 April 1964 in Melbourne. It was arguably the first depiction of a gay relationship in Australian TV drama. ''Filmink'' magazine argues "it ranks among the finest TV plays ever made in Australia." Plot The plot deals with the relationship between Arthur Rimbaud (Alan Bickford) and Paul Verlaine (Alistair Duncan). Rimbaud arrives in Paris age 16 and in three years shocks and revolts all who knows him. His only friend and confidante is Verlaine. Richard Davies (Australian Actor)
Richard Davies is an Australian actor best known for his roles in television series, such as ''Offspring'' and '' The Saddle Club''. Early life In 2005, Davies graduated from the National Theatre Drama School. In his graduation productions he performed Wayne Shute in ''The Rivers of China'', directed by Ken Boucher and Harry Bagley, and Cathy in '' Cloud 9'', directed by Melanie Beddie. Susanne Haworth is a retired Australian producer and film and television actress. She was a well-known child star during the 1960s, best known as Susan Wells in the children's adventure series ''Adventures of the Seaspray'', but also had memorable guest appearances on ''Cop Shop'', ''Prisoner Cell Block H'' and ''A Country Practice'' in her later career. Patricia Anne Haddy (5 October 1930 – 6 June 1999), credited also as Anne Hardy, was an Australian actress, television presenter and voice artist, who worked in various facets of the industry including radio, stage and television. Henri Safran
Henri Safran (born 7 October 1932) is a Paris-born director who worked extensively in Australia. He worked in French television, then in Britain, before moving to Australia in 1960 to work with the ABC. He became an Australian citizen in 1963 but returned to England in 1966 to work on British television. Alastair Duncan, (1926 - 3 August 2005) also credited as Alistair Duncan, was an English-born actor, playwright, producer and director. He was best known for his work as an actor in radio, but also in theatre and television in series and TV movies, both in his native England, Australia and the United States.
