A Reason To Live (2011 Film)
''A Reason to Live'' () is a 2011 South Korean drama film written and directed by Lee Jeong-hyang. It stars Song Hye-kyo as a director who forgives a teenage boy for killing her fiancé. It premiered at the 16th Busan International Film Festival, 2011 Busan International Film Festival, and was released in theaters on October 27, 2011. It received 131,194 admissions. Plot Documentary filmmaker Da-hae loses her fiancé by a hit and run accident on her birthday. But she forgives the criminal who was a 15-year-old boy based on her belief as a Catholic and signs a petition to revoke the juvenile's death penalty. One year later, Da-hae is commissioned by the Catholic Church to make a documentary on the inhumanity of capital punishment. However, her moral convictions and desire to be compassionate are seriously questioned when she finds out that the teenage driver killed a classmate, not long after his reprieve. Lee Jeong-hyang (; born April 13, 1964) is a South Korean film director and screenwriter. She is best known for ''The Way Home (2002 film), The Way Home'' (2002), a film she wrote and directed which won her Best Film and Best Original Screenplay at the Grand Bell Awards. Life and career Born in South Korea, Lee attended Sogang University, majoring in French Language and Literature. She subsequently entered The Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA) in 1988 and was a part of its fourth graduating class. Upon graduation from KAFA, Lee worked as an assistant director on ''Declaration of Genius'' (1995), a film by Lee Jang-ho, a director who came to fame in the mid-1970s. 16th Busan International Film Festival
The 16th Busan International Film Festival was held from October 6 to October 14, 2011 at the Busan Cinema Center and was hosted by actresses Uhm Ji-won and Ye Ji-won, making it the first year to be hosted by two women. The 16th BIFF also marks the first year for Lee Yong-kwan as the festival director after the retirement of its founding director, Kim Dong-ho and is also the first to take place at the Busan Cinema Center which was opened on September 29, 2011.
