''A Place for Us to Dream'' is a compilation album by the English alternative rock musical band, band Placebo (band), Placebo. It was released on 7 October 2016, as part of the band's twentieth anniversary celebrations. It consists of 36 tracks, including songs off albums, single (music), single versions, radio edits, live performances and redux editions of previously released songs, as well as the 2016 single "Jesus' Son (song), Jesus' Son". The compilation includes all Placebo songs that have been released as singles, apart from "Burger Queen Français", "Twenty Years (song), Twenty Years" and "The Never-Ending Why". "A place for us to dream" is a lyric from the song "Narcoleptic" on Placebo's third album, ''Black Market Music (album), Black Market Music''. Placebo (band)
Placebo ( ) are a British alternative rock band, formed in London in 1994 by vocalist–guitarist Brian Molko and bassist–guitarist Stefan Olsdal, and in late 1994 Robert Schultzberg joined as drummer. Molko was born in Belgium and Olsdal and Schultzberg in Sweden; Molko and Olsdal grew up in Luxembourg before separately relocating to London and becoming British citizens. Schultzberg left the band in 1996 shortly after the release of the band's Placebo (Placebo album), eponymous debut album due to conflicts with Molko, and was replaced the same year by Steve Hewitt. Following the release of a demo, a split single, and Placebo (Placebo album), their eponymous debut album, Placebo gained exposure in 1997 after the single "Nancy Boy" became popular in the UK, a song notorious at the time for its Gender bender, gender-bending content. Alison Mosshart
Alison Nicole Mosshart (born November 23, 1978) is an American singer, songwriter, artist, and the lead vocalist for the rock bands The Kills and The Dead Weather. She started her musical career in 1995 with the Florida punk rock band Discount which disbanded in 2000. She then co-founded the Kills with British guitarist Jamie Hince (formerly of Scarfo and Blyth Power) in 2000 in London. In The Kills' first album, Mosshart was known by her stage name "VV" and Hince was known as "Hotel". In early 2009, she joined the supergroup The Dead Weather, formed by Jack White, along with Jack Lawrence and Dean Fertita. In that band, her stage name is "Baby Ruthless". "Sleeping with Ghosts" is the title cut from Placebo's fourth album, '' Sleeping with Ghosts''. The song is a depiction of how, "Soulmates never die", or in more simple terms, how true friendships/relationships never end, linking it with the album's concept of relationships. The song's composition is softer compared to the other songs of the album, it features lighter, slower guitar and more piano than other titles. The chorus line, "Soulmates never die", was used as the title for the live DVD, '' Soulmates Never Die (Live in Paris 2003)''. The song was re-recorded as a B-side for the single " This Picture" and called simply "Soulmates". "Soulmates" is a slightly heavier attempt than the album version and is often played live. "Taste in Men" is a 2000 single by the English alternative rock band Placebo. Taken from their third album, '' Black Market Music'', it reached number 16 in the UK singles chart. Music and reception Gigwise ranked the track as Placebo's greatest hit, describing it as "bubbling, space-age blast of howling, claustrophobic electro-rock." Nevertheless, Pitchfork considered the song as a "lazy reprise the Roland 303 industrial funk of ' Pure Morning'." "36 Degrees" is a song by British alternative rock band Placebo, released as the second single from their eponymous debut album. It reached number 80 in the UK Singles Chart. Song meaning There are various suggestions as to the meaning of the song, such as it relates to sexual preferences or it is to do with dying. Some state "36 Degrees" refers to the average human body temperature being generally accepted as , and that the narrator is dying, or losing the will to live after being dumped by a partner. Singer Brian Molko is stated to have said before a performance "The average body temperature is 37 degrees. This is a song called 36 Degrees", further adding to the speculation. However, the term "36 degrees" also means two people who are not getting on in urban slang; therefore the idea of the song being written for a break-up could well be true.
