A Mother's Heart
''A Mother's Heart'' () is a 1965 Soviet historical revolutionary film directed by Mark Donskoy. Donskoy was awarded USSR State Prize for the film in 1968. The film follows the formative years (1884–1890) of Vladimir Ulyanov growing up in Simbirsk. The film was followed by the sequel, '' A Mother's Devotion'' in 1967. Plot The film unfolds between 1886 and 1893, portraying the life of Maria Alexandrovna Ulyanova, the resilient mother of Vladimir Lenin, as she navigates the trials and sacrifices faced by her revolutionary family. A cultured and enlightened woman from a prosperous background, Maria Alexandrovna endures the loss of her husband, Ilya Nikolaevich, in 1886, and shoulders the burden of raising her children alone. Mark Donskoy
Mark Semyonovich Donskoy (21 March 1981) was a Soviet film director, screenwriter, and studio administrative head. Biography Mark Donskoy was born in Odessa in a Jewish family. During the Civil War, he served in the Red Army (1921-1923), and was held captive by the White Russians for ten months. After he was freed, he was discharged from military service. He studied psychology and psychiatry at the Crimean Medical School. In 1925 he graduated from the legal department of the Faculty of Social Sciences of the Crimean M.V. Frunze University in Simferopol. He worked in investigative bodies, in the Supreme Court of the Ukrainian SSR, and in the bar association. He published a collection of short stories drawn from his life called ''Prisoners'' (1925). Donskoy began his career in film in 1926. Dmitri Ilyich Ulyanov (; – 16 July 1943) was a Russian and Soviet physician and revolutionary, the younger brother of Aleksandr Ulyanov and Vladimir Lenin. As a medical student at Lomonosov Moscow State University, he became involved with revolutionary activity and joined the illegal Marxist ''Rabochiy soyuz'' ("Workers' Union"). He was first arrested in 1897. The following year he was exiled to Tula, then Podolsk, where he was put under police supervision (equivalent to modern probation). As his brother's renown grew, he endured countless arrests. In 1900 he became a correspondent of ''Iskra''. The following year he graduated from the medical school of the University of Tartu. Vsevolod Dmitrievich Safonov (; 9 April 1926 – 6 July 1992) was a Soviet actor of theatre and cinema. He was awarded the title People's Artist of the USSR Prize (1974). Biography Vsevolod Dmitrievich Safonov was born on 9 April 1926 in Moscow. Vsevolod's father died in his early childhood and was brought up by his mother. The family lived in а two-room apartment on the outskirts of the capital, on Surikov Street in Sokol. As a child, Vsevolod dreamed of becoming a pilot. Maria Ilyinichna Ulyanova (; – 12 June 1937) was a Russian Bolshevik revolutionary, politician, and the younger sister of Vladimir Lenin and Anna Ulyanova. Biography Maria Ilyinichna Ulyanova was born on 6 February 1878 in Simbirsk and was the youngest child of Ilya Nikolaevich Ulyanov and his wife Maria Alexandrovna. She was given the nickname "Manyasha" by her family. She studied first at the Simbirsk gymnasium, in Simbirsk, graduating in 1893. In 1895, Maria applied to the physicochemical department of the mathematical faculty of the Higher ( Bestuzhev) women's courses in Saint Petersburg.
