''A Letter to Myself'' is the fifth studio album by United States, American soul music, soul group The Chi-Lites, produced and largely written by lead singer Eugene Record. The album was released in 1973 on the Brunswick Records, Brunswick label. History The first single released from the album was "We Need Order" and the song peaked at #13 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, R&B chart and #61 on Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100. The title track was released as the second single and peaked at #3 on the R&B chart and #33 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was the third of four consecutive Chi-Lites albums to make the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, R&B top 5 (reaching #4), but has only a moderate critical reputation, with none of the tracks being considered as strong as the highlights on ''(For God's Sake) Give More Power to the People'' or ''A Lonely Man''. The Chi-Lites (, ) are an American R&B/soul vocal quartet from Chicago. Forming at Chicago's Hyde Park High School in 1959, the group's original lineup consisted of singers Robert Lester, Eugene Record, Creadel Jones, Clarence Johnson, Burt Bowen, Eddie Reed and Marshall Thompson. The Chi-Lites' greatest fame came during the late 1960s through the early 1970s (with members Record, Jones, Lester and Thompson), scoring eleven top-ten R&B chart hits from 1969 until 1974. "Too Late to Turn Back Now" is the 1972 follow-up single of Cornelius Brothers & Sister Rose to their debut hit " Treat Her Like a Lady". The single was originally released in 1970 on the Platinum label. Written by Eddie Cornelius, "Too Late to Turn Back Now" had great success upon its re-release, peaking at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 (behind " Lean on Me" by Bill Withers) and No. 5 on the U.S. R&B chart. It went to No. 1 on ''Cash Box'''s chart of the Top 100 Singles for the week of July 29, 1972. "Too Late to Turn Back Now" is ranked as the 34th biggest U.S. hit of 1972. Bruce Swedien ( ) (April 19, 1934 – November 16, 2020) was an American recording engineer, mixing engineer and record producer. He was widely known for his work with Michael Jackson, Quincy Jones, Paul McCartney and Barbra Streisand. Swedien first achieved widespread recognition as engineer with Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons' 1962 single " Big Girls Don't Cry" which sold over one million copies and stayed at number one on the ''Billboard'' Hot 100 for five weeks. Ethel Merker
K. Ethel Merker (1923–2012) was a prominent freelance and orchestral horn player in Chicago, who collaborated with the Frank Holton Company on the design and development of the Merker-Matic line of horns. Early life and education Kathryn Ethel Merker, known as Ethel, grew up in Chicago Heights, Illinois. She studied piano when she was young. In the third grade, Merker began playing horn. She studied horn with Max Pottag throughout high school, and later with Philip Farkas and Arnold Jacobs, all members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Merker earned two degrees from Northwestern University: a bachelor of music education in 1946 and a master of music in 1947. Career Merker performed as an orchestral horn player as well as in jazz, pop, and commercial settings.
