AZS AWF Warsaw (men's Volleyball)
AZS AWF Warszawa, known in English as AZS AWF Warsaw, was a Polish men's volleyball team based in Warsaw, founded in 1949 as a university team (AZS) and dissolved in 1995. It was the most successful Polish volleyball club of the 20th century in terms of the number of league titles before the establishment of the professional volleyball league. Volleyball
Volleyball is a team sport in which two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding a ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since Tokyo 1964. Beach volleyball was introduced to the program at the Atlanta 1996 Summer Olympics. The adapted version of volleyball at the Summer Paralympic Games is sitting volleyball. Basic play The complete set of rules is extensive, but play essentially proceeds as follows: a player on one of the teams begins a 'rally' by serving the ball (tossing or releasing it and then hitting it with a hand or arm), from behind the back boundary line of the court, over the net, and into the receiving team's court. The receiving team must not let the ball be grounded within their court. PlusLiga
The PlusLiga is the highest level of men's volleyball in Poland, a professional league competition featuring volleyball clubs located in this country. It is overseen by Polska Liga Siatkówki SA (PLS SA). It is currently a 14 teams league from October to April/May. The regular season is followed by playoffs, with the winner earning the Polish Championship (). It is one of the best volleyball leagues in Europe, being highly ranked in the international competitions. The Polish Men's Volleyball Cup is an annual competition for volleyball clubs in Poland. It is overseen by the Polish Volleyball Federation () and the Professional Volleyball League SA () (since 2000). CEV Champions League
The CEV Champions League is the top official competition for men's volleyball clubs from the whole of Europe. The competition is organised every year by the European Volleyball Confederation. Formula (2018–19 to present) Qualification A total of 20 teams participate in the main competition, with 18 teams being allocated direct vacancies on the basis of ranking list for European Cup Competitions, and 2 teams from the qualification rounds. League round 20 teams take part in the League round where they are split into 5 groups.
