ASEAN U-16 Boys' Championship
The ASEAN U-16 Boys' Championship (formerly AFF U-16 Youth Championship) is an annual international football competition contested by the national teams of the members of the ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) and occasionally invited nations from the rest of Asia. The tournament used to be played at under-17 level, however the AFF followed the lead of the Asian Football Confederation after they renamed its U-17 competition to fall in line with FIFA's naming conventions and also to reflect the age of the players at the competition. The competition was first held in 2002 and resumed in 2005. The ASEAN Football Federation (AFF) is an organisation within the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and is an international governing body of association football, futsal, and beach soccer in Southeast Asia. 2012 AFF U-16 Youth Championship
The 2012 AFF U-16 Youth Championship is an international football tournament that was held from 2 to 8 June 2012, hosted by Laos for the second time. This year's edition will feature four nations. Laos and Thailand representing the AFF and guests Australia and Japan who are invited as all four nations have qualified for the 2012 AFC U-16 Championship to be played later in the year. AFC U-17 Asian Cup
The AFC U-17 Asian Cup, formerly known as the AFC U-16 Championship and AFC U-17 Championship, is a football competition, organised by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) held once every two years for Asian under-17 teams that also serves as a qualification tournament for the FIFA U-17 World Cup. The top 4 countries qualify to participate in the FIFA U-17 World Cup. Up to 2000, the tournament was for U-16 teams. Between 2002 and 2006 it was held as an under-17 tournament. Between 2008 and 2020, it was switched back to a U-16 Championship. The AFC then returned it to an under-17 tournament starting from 2023. Moreover, the tournament would also be rebranded from the "AFC U-16 Championship" to the "AFC U-17 Asian Cup". On 24 May 2024, AFC announced that the tournament will be held annually from 2026. The 2022 AFF U-16 Championship was the fifteenth edition of the AFF U-16 Youth Championship, the annual international youth association football championship organised by the ASEAN Football Federation for men's under-16 national teams of Southeast Asia. 2016 AFF U-16 Youth Championship
The 2016 AFF U-16 Youth Championship was the 11th edition of the AFF U-16 Youth Championship, organised by the ASEAN Football Federation for the men's under-16 national teams of Southeastern Asia. It is hosted by Cambodia for the third time after the 2007 AFF U-17 Youth Championship and 2015 AFF U-16 Youth Championship, and won by Australia. It is played between 10 and 23 July 2016. A total of 11 teams played in the tournament. The Indonesian Football Association was suspended by football's world governing body FIFA because of government interference in the Southeast Asian country's national league on 30 May 2015 but this was lifted on 13 May 2016. However, Indonesia withdrew from the tournament. Players born on or after 1 January 2000 are eligible to compete in the tournament.
