The AMD 690 chipset series is an integrated graphics chipset family which was developed and manufactured by Advanced Micro Devices, AMD subsidiary ATI Technologies, ATI for both AMD and Intel platforms focusing on both desktop and mobile computing markets. The corresponding chipset for the Intel platform has a marketing name of ''Radeon Xpress 1200 series''. The chipsets production began in late 2006 with codenames ''RS690'' and ''RS600'', where both of them share similar internal chip design, targeting at the desktop market. Mobile versions of both chipsets have codenames ''RS690M'' and ''RS600M''. The Athlon 64 is a ninth-generation, AMD64-architecture microprocessor produced by Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), released on September 23, 2003. It is the third processor to bear the name ''Athlon'', and the immediate successor to the Athlon XP. The Athlon 64 was the second processor to implement the AMD64 architecture (after the Opteron) and the first 64-bit processor targeted at the average consumer. The chipset supports AMD 64-bit processors (Socket 939 and Socket 754) as well as supporting Intel Pentium 4, Pentium D and Celeron processors (LGA 775 and Socket 478). Transition-minimized differential signaling (TMDS) is a technology for transmitting high-speed serial data used by the DVI and HDMI video interfaces, as well as by other digital communication interfaces. The transmitter incorporates a coding algorithm which reduces electromagnetic interference over copper cables and enables robust clock recovery at the receiver to achieve high skew tolerance for driving longer cables as well as shorter low-cost cables. In computing, a northbridge (also host bridge, or memory controller hub) is a microchip that comprises the core logic chipset architecture on motherboards to handle high-performance tasks, especially for older personal computers. It is connected directly to a CPU via the front-side bus (FSB), and is usually used in conjunction with a slower southbridge to manage communication between the CPU and other parts of the motherboard. Historically, separation of functions between CPU, northbridge, and southbridge chips was necessary due to the difficulty of integrating all components onto a single chip die.
