The AIR Awards of 2011 (or Jägermeister Independent Awards of 2011) is the sixth annual Australian Independent Record Labels Association Music Awards (generally known as the AIR Awards) and was an award ceremony at Revolt Art Space, in Melbourne, Australia on 12 October 2011. The event was again sponsored by German liquor brand, Jägermeister. The event was broadcast on Australian pay-TV music broadcaster Channel V. This year was the first for the category, ''Best Independent Dance, Electronica or Club Single'' and the win was another first, with it being a tie. The award was shared by Tommy Trash and Tom Piper's "All My Friends" and Seekae's "Blood Bank". The Experiment (Art Vs
''The Experiment'' is a 2002 BBC documentary series in which 15 men are randomly selected to be either "prisoner" or guard, contained in a simulated prison over an eight-day period. Produced by Steve Reicher and Alex Haslam, it presents the findings of what has subsequently become known as the BBC Prison Study. These findings centered around "the social and psychological consequences of putting people in groups of unequal power" and "when people accept inequality and when they challenge it". Background The findings of the study were very different from those of the Stanford Prison Experiment. Specifically, (a) there was no evidence of guards conforming "naturally" to the role, and (b) in response to manipulations that served to increase a sense of shared identity amongst the prisoners, over time, they demonstrated increased resistance to the guards' regime. Wagons (band)
Wagons are an Australian alt-country band from Melbourne, Australia, led by singer/songwriter/television and radio presenter Henry Wagons. History The band was formed in Melbourne in 1999 by Henry Wagons with his school friends from Glen Waverley in Melbourne; Si "The Philanthropist" Francis, Richard Blazé, Steve "Harmony" Hassett and Mark "Tuckerbag" Dawson. ''Busby Marou'' is the debut studio album by Australian blues and roots band Busby Marou. The album was originally self-released in August 2010 and was re-released on Warner Music Australia's indie imprint, Footstomp Records in June 2011 with a deluxe edition being released in March 2012. Bonjah were a four-piece band based in Melbourne, Australia. ''Bonjah'' was formed in 2006 in Tauranga New Zealand by Glenn Mossop, Regan Lethbridge, David Morgan, and Dan Chisholm. Rrakala
''Rrakala'' is the second album from Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu. It is performed in Yolngu. Gurrumul plays piano, drums, nylon-string acoustic guitar, electric and acoustic guitars. It reached number three on the ARIA charts. At the 2011 ARIA awards, ''Rrakala'' won the award for Best World Music Album. It was also nominated for album of the year, Best Male Artist, Best Independent Release and Best Cover Artist. Gurrumul performed a version of "Warwu" with Missy Higgins at the award ceremony. Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu
Geoffrey Gurrumul Yunupingu (22 January 1971 – 25 July 2017), commonly known as Gurrumul and also referred to since his death as Dr G. Yunupingu, was an Aboriginal Australian musician of the Yolŋu peoples. A multi-instrumentalist, he played drums, keyboards, guitar (a right-hand-strung guitar played left-handed) and didgeridoo, but it was the clarity of his singing voice that attracted rave reviews. He sang stories of his land both in Yolŋu languages such as Gaalpu, Gumatj or Djambarrpuynu, a dialect related to Gumatj, and in English. Although his solo career brought him wider acclaim, he was also formerly a member of Yothu Yindi and later of Saltwater Band. Busby Marou (pronounced buz-bee ma-roo) are an Australian musical duo originally from Rockhampton, Queensland. The duo consists of Thomas Busby and Jeremy Marou while other musicians perform with them in concert. At the APRA Music Awards of 2012, the duo won "Blues & Roots Work of the Year" category. Big Scary is an Australian musical duo formed in Melbourne in 2006, by Tom Iansek and Joanna Syme. The pair have released several EPs and five studio albums.
