AIDSRides
The AIDSRides were a series of fundraising events organised by Pallotta TeamWorks which raised more than $105 million for critical AIDS services and medical research. About half of the money raised directly benefited AIDS patients. In 2001, the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center ended their partnership with the California AIDSRide over concerns that not enough money was going to the charities. They hired Honeycutt Group, a consulting firm started by three former Pallotta TeamWorks employees, to organize AIDS/LifeCycle, a similar event. Dan Pallotta unsuccessfully sued the "copycat" event, but the competition and surrounding controversy made 2002 the event's last year. AIDS Vaccine 200
AIDS Vaccine 200 (AV 200) is a charity bike ride through the scenic Georgia countryside. The ride raises awareness and vital funds for HIV/AIDS vaccine research having donated to date over $3.5 million to the Emory Vaccine Center, one of the world's leading vaccine research centers working to find an HIV vaccine, and other beneficiarie The ride The 2-day ride takes place in May each year. More than 150 cyclists and an army of volunteers complete the ride each year. The ride begins on the campus of Emory University in Atlanta and passes through several small, Georgia towns until cyclists arrive at the Rock Eagle 4-H Center located north of Eatonton, Georgia in the Oconee National Forest. Positive Pedalers
Positive Pedalers is a non-profit California corporation for people with HIV/AIDS or supporters of people living with HIV/AIDS, which organizes bicycle-related activities. Name The group's full name is “Positive Pedalers". The groups is also known informally as “PosPeds". “Pos” is widely used as a way of referring to someone who is HIV positive. Members Positive Pedalers has nearly 1,800 members, mostly in the United States. There is a small number of members from other countries, notably the United Kingdom, Australia, China, and South Africa. There is no membership charge for Positive Pedalers. Positive Traction, a newsletter with membership benefits, and email notifications are available. A nationwide AIDS fundraising ride schedule can be found on the Positive Pedalers website. San Francisco AIDS Foundation
The San Francisco AIDS Foundation (SFAF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing services for people with HIV/AIDS, with a mission to end the AIDS epidemic in the United States. They were founded in 1982, at the beginning of the AIDS epidemic. SFAF is one of the largest and oldest community-based AIDS service organizations in the United States. AIDS/LifeCycle
AIDS/LifeCycle (ALC) is a seven-day cycling tour through California starting in San Francisco and ending in Los Angeles. Description AIDS/LifeCycle is a charity event to raise money for HIV/AIDS services and raise HIV/AIDS awareness. Participants (riders, roadies, and staff) raise money throughout the year. In the first week of June, the riders cycle from San Francisco to Los Angeles with the support of the roadies and staff. For seven days, ALC passes through communities in California as a memorial to those who have died of AIDS and as an event to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS. Each day of riding can range from 40-100+ miles. At the end of each day of riding, cyclists arrive in a camp to eat, shower, and rest before riding out again the next morning.
