Alkmaar
Alkmaar () is a city and municipality in the Netherlands, located in the province of North Holland, about 30 km north of Amsterdam. Alkmaar is well known for its traditional cheese market. For tourists, it is a popular cultural destination. The municipality has a population of 109,896 as of 2021. History The earliest mention of the name Alkmaar is in a 10th-century document. As the village grew into a town, it was granted city rights in 1254. Nick Kuipers (; born 12 December 1988) is a Dutch footballer who plays as a left back for Dutch lower league side Go Ahead Kampen. Club career Early career Kuipers was born in Heemskerk, North Holland. He started playing football, at amateur team Hollandia-T in Tuitjenhorn. Here it was clear that Kuipers had a special talent, and therefore he moved to Saturday-amateur team AFC '34 in Alkmaar, who were one of the bigger amateur teams in Netherlands. HFC Haarlem saw his potential, and signed him for their youth squad. Here, he developed so good, that FC Utrecht, were keen to sign him for their reserve squad. Alexander Pastoor (; born 26 October 1966) is a Dutch football manager and former player, who is currently manager of Almere City. Playing career A former midfielder, Pastoor spent most of his career at FC Volendam, playing with the North-Hollanders from 1989 to 1995. Later on he continued his career at SC Heerenveen, and then in Belgium (with KRC Harelbeke) and Austria (with Austria Lustenau) before retiring in 2001. Coaching career After his retirement from football as a player, Pastoor entered into management as youth coach of AZ Alkmaar in the 2001–02 season. Haris Medunjanin (; born 8 March 1985) is a Bosnian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Dutch club PEC Zwolle. He started his professional career at AZ, who loaned him to Sparta Rotterdam in 2006. In 2008 he joined Valladolid, before signing with Maccabi Tel Aviv two years later. He was loaned to Gaziantepspor in 2012, signing on a permanent basis the following season; in 2016 he returned to Maccabi and, one year later, moved to the Philadelphia Union.
