ABC Kids Channel
ABC Kids is the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's part-time channel, broadcasting shows between the hours of 4am and 7:30pm for children 6 years old and younger, including an upper preschool audience. It shares the same bandwidth as ABC Family which broadcasts outside ABC Kids' scheduled hours. History Origins In 1989, ABC for Kids was formed as a children's music label. Its first project was titled 0–9. In 1991, all children's programming on the ABC was organized into a daily broadcasting block under the name ABC For Kids. Jonathan Shier
Jonathan Fraser Shier (born 18 October 1947) is an Australian businessman and media executive. He was educated at Barker College, Geelong Grammar School and Monash University (LLB BEcon). During the years 1978 to 1999, Shier lived in the United Kingdom and the Netherlands and was a director of Scottish Television, a director and deputy managing director of Thames Television, the CEO of the Pay TV company Nethold Central Europe and the commercial director of the Scandinavian and Baltic broadcaster TV3. Shier returned to Australia in 2000 and is best known there for his controversial tenure as managing director of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation from March 2000 to December 2001. ABC Television, the television network of the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, broadcasts two children's television channels , with ABC Kids and ABC Family being the two most watched children's networks in the country. History Prior to early 2009, there was a brand called ABC Kids (stylised as abckids) which was separate from regular ABC Television/ABC1 and ABC2, containing all children's programming on the ABC. On 7 March 2005, ABC2 launched allowing for ABC Kids' programming to be broadcast for 13 hours a day across ABC1 and ABC2.
