Actor-Based Concurrent Language (ABCL) is a family of programming languages, developed in Japan in the 1980s and 1990s. ABCL/1 ''ABCL/1'' (Actor-Based Concurrent Language) is a prototype-based concurrent programming language for the ABCL MIMD system, created in 1986 by Akinori Yonezawa, of the ''Department of Information Science'' at the University of Tokyo. ABCL/1 uses asynchronous message passing among objects to achieve concurrency. It requires Common Lisp. Implementations in Kyoto Common Lisp (KCL) and Symbolics Lisp are available from the author. American Birth Control League
The American Birth Control League (ABCL) was founded by Margaret Sanger in 1921 at the First American Birth Control Conference in New York City. The organization promoted the founding of birth control clinics and encouraged women to control their own fertility. In 1942, the league became the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Common Lisp (CL) is a dialect of the Lisp (programming language), Lisp programming language, published in American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standard document ''ANSI INCITS 226-1994 (S2018)'' (formerly ''X3.226-1994 (R1999)''). The Common Lisp HyperSpec, a hyperlinked HTML version, has been derived from the ANSI Common Lisp standard. The Common Lisp language was developed as a standardized and improved successor of Maclisp. By the early 1980s several groups were already at work on diverse successors to MacLisp: Lisp Machine Lisp (aka ZetaLisp), Spice Lisp, NIL (programming language), NIL and S-1 Lisp. Level Crossings In The United Kingdom
There are around 6,000 railway level crossings in the United Kingdom, of which about 1,500 are public highway crossings. This number is gradually being reduced as the risk of accidents at level crossings is considered high. The director of the HM Railway Inspectorate, UK Railway Inspectorate commented in 2004 that "the use of level crossings contributes the greatest potential for catastrophic risk on the railways." The creation of new level crossings on the national network is now illegal (the exceptions being reopening unavoidable crossings on brand new lines or reopening closed railway lines, and on heritage railways), with grade separation by way of bridges and tunnels being the more popular options.
