A.G. Huntsman Award For Excellence In The Marine Sciences
The A.G. Huntsman Award for Excellence in the Marine Sciences was established in 1980 by the Canadian marine science community to recognize excellence of research and outstanding contributions to marine sciences. It is presented by the Royal Society of Canada. The award honours marine scientists of any nationality who have had and continue to have a significant influence on the course of marine scientific thought. It is named in honour of Archibald Gowanlock Huntsman (1883–1973), a pioneer Canadian oceanographer and fishery biologist. A.G. Benjamin Halpern
Benjamin S. Halpern is a marine biologist and ecologist currently working at the University of California, Santa Barbara. His research has addressed a broad range of questions that span local to global scales, including spatial population dynamics, trophic interactions in community ecology, and the interface between ecology and human dynamics, all with the ultimate aim of informing and facilitating conservation and resource management efforts in marine systems. He is widely known for his research on marine protected areas (MPAs), cumulative impacts from human activities, and more recently his leadership in developing the Ocean Health Index. Paul Falkowski
Paul G. Falkowski (born 1951) is an American biological oceanographer in the Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. His research work focuses on phytoplankton and primary production, and his wider interests include evolution, paleoecology, photosynthesis, biogeochemical cycles and astrobiology. Ian Nicholas McCave (born 3 February 1941) is a British geologist, who was the Woodwardian Professor of Geology at the University of Cambridge Department of Earth Sciences from 1985 to 2008 and a fellow of St John's College from 1986 to present. David Karl
David Michael Karl (May 9, 1950) is an American microbial biologist and oceanographer. He is the Victor and Peggy Brandstrom Pavel Professor of Microbial Oceanography at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa and the Director of the University Center for Microbial Oceanography: Research and Education. Lynne Talley (born May 18, 1954) is a physical oceanographer at Scripps Institution of Oceanography known for her research into the large-scale circulation of water masses in the global ocean. Early life and education Talley received a B.A. in physics in 1976 from Oberlin College and a Bachelor of Music (B.M.) in piano performance from Oberlin Conservatory of Music. Jaia Syvitski is an American-Canadian earth system scientist and Professor Emerita. Her areas of research include oceanography, geology, hydrology, numerical modelling, and geophysics.
