Turkish Film Critics Association
Turkish Film Critics Association (''Turkish'': Sinema Yazarları Derneği (SİYAD)) is a non-governmental organization based in Istanbul, founded in 1977 by film critic Atilla Dorsay. It distributes the annual Turkish Film Critics Association Awards and also a member of the International Federation of Film Critics. History The Turkish Film Critics Association was founded in 1977 by film critic Atilla Dorsay. It was closed in 1980 after the 1980 Turkish coup d'état. SİYAD was re-established in 1993 by Saim Yavuz, Turgut Yasalar, Atilla Dorsay, Agah Özgüç, Vecdi Sayar, Kamil Suveren and Necati Sönmez. The association was headed by Atilla Dorsay until 2005, when Mehmet Açar was elected as the president. SİYAD later headed by the following film critics: Mehmet Açar (2005–07), Murat Özer (2007–10), Tunca Arslan (2010–13), Alin Taşçıyan (2013–14), Melis Behlil (2014–15) and Tulle Akbal-Süalp (2015). Semih Kaplanoğlu
Semih Kaplanoğlu (born 4 April 1963) is a Turkish screenwriter, film director and producer. Life and career In 1984, Kaplanoğlu moved to Istanbul and worked for a couple of years as a copywriter for advertising companies like Güzel Sanatlar Saatchi & Saatchi and Young & Rubicam. He switched over to cinema in 1986 to become an assistant cameraman for two award-winning documentary films. In 1994 Kaplanoğlu wrote the script and directed a television series Şehnaz Tango with 52 episodes which was aired on TV channels Show TV and InterStar and became successful. Kaplanoğlu's debut feature '' Away From Home'' was awarded Best Director in Singapore IFF in 2001. ''Eyyvah Eyvah'' is a 2010 Turkish comedy film, directed by Hakan Algül, which stars Ata Demirer as a young clarinet player who travels to Istanbul in search of his estranged father. Demet Akbağ (née İybar; born 23 December 1959) is a Turkish theatre and film actress. Biography Demet Akbağ was born on 23 December 1959 in Denizli as the third child of Benan and Oktay İybar. Her maternal family is of Turkmen descent. Her paternal family is of Kurdish descent. Her father's religion is Alevism. His family was in Denizli at the time because of the duty of his grandfather as the head of justice department in the city. Her father was a journalist and photographer.
