The International 420 Dinghy is a sailing dinghy popular for racing and teaching. The hull is fiberglass with internal buoyancy tanks. The 420 has a bermuda rig, spinnaker and trapeze. right A monohull is a type of boat having only one hull, unlike multihulled boats which can have two or more individual hulls connected to one another. Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association National Championships
The Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (ICSA) holds National Championships in seven different categories: * Coed Dinghy * Women’s Dinghy * Team Racing * Women's Team Racing * Men’s Singlehanded * Women’s Singlehanded *Match Racing (previously Sloop) The college team that compiles the best overall record in the six categories is awarded the Leonard M. Fowle Trophy. Teams must qualify for the National Championships through conference championships. All regattas are scored low-point with no throw-out races. Racing is done on short courses. Boats are usually rotated each race so that each team sails each boat in the fleet once. The ICSA National Championships rotate amongst ICSA's seven different conferences each year. Since college sailing is a fall and spring sport, three of these championships are held in the fall and four are held in the spring. Taylor Canfield (born February 5, 1989) is a United States Virgin Islands sailor competing in match racing. As of November 29, 2023, he is the driver of the United States SailGP Team following the sale of the team. He won the ICSA Match Racing National Championship with Boston College in 2010 and 2011, and the 2013 World Match Racing Tour and became 2013 World Champion in match racing. Monnickendam
Monnickendam () is a city in the Netherlands, Dutch province of North Holland. It is a part of the municipality of Waterland, and lies on the coast of the Markermeer, about southeast of Purmerend. It received City rights in the Netherlands, city rights in 1355 and was damaged by the fires of 1500 and 1513. History Monnikendam was also the name of a number of warships built at the port of the same name during the Anglo-Dutch Wars. Julio Alonso Ortega (born 23 December 2000 in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria) is a Spanish sailing (sport), sailor and world champion specialising in two-person Dinghy sailing, dinghy class. He has sailed throughout most of his sporting career for the Royal Gran Canaria Yacht Club, where he trains under coaches Aarón Sarmiento, and two-time Olympic gold medallist Luis Doreste. Education Outside of his sailing career, Alonso pursued higher education in the United Kingdom. Optimist (dinghy)
The Optimist is a small, single-handed sailing dinghy intended for use by young people up to the age of 15. The Optimist is one of the two most popular sailing dinghies in the world, with over 150,000 boats officially registered with the class and many more built but never registered. It is sailed in over 120 countries and it is one of only two sailboats as an International Class by World Sailing exclusively for sailors under 16.
