2 Force Support Battalion
The 2nd Force Support Battalion (2 FSB) was an Australian Army logistics battalion. Established in 1998, 2 FSB was a Australian Army Reserve, reserve unit headquartered in Hobart, with depot in various locations across Tasmania and Victoria. It was merged into the 8th Operational Support Unit in 2024. History Formed on 1 August 1998 as a Australian Army Reserve, reserve unit, following the amalgamation of a number of supply, medical, military police, maintenance and transport units. Its headquarters was located at Derwent Barracks, Glenorchy, Derwent Barracks in Hobart, Tasmania. It also had depots in Bendigo, Devonport, Horsham and Melbourne. While forming in Tasmania, in 2011, it took over three reserve sub-units from 9th Force Support Battalion (Australia), 9 FSB in Victoria (Australia), Victoria. 2 FSB formed part of the 17th Sustainment Brigade (Australia), 17th Sustainment Brigade. The 2nd Division of the Australian Army, also known as the 2nd (Australian) Division, commands all the Australian Army Reserve, Reserve brigades in Australia. The 9th Force Support Battalion (9 FSB) is an Australian Army logistics battalion. Formed on 1 August 1998, following the amalgamation of a number of air despatch, military police, ships army detachments, personnel and transport units, it is based at RAAF Base Amberley in Amberley. 9 FSB is part the 17th Sustainment Brigade. Its role is to provide third line or 'general' support within an area of operations. 9 FSB keeps two camels in their depot at RAAF Base Amberley as the mascots for 26th Transport Squadron, named "Vernon" and "Penny". Vernon and Penny have 2 handlers caring for them at all times. Their names come from the Officer Commanding of 9 FSB and his wife in 1984-85.
