2026 Bangladeshi General Election
General elections are expected to take place in Bangladesh in the first half of April 2026 following the removal of the government of Sheikh Hasina amidst the July Revolution in August 2024. The interim government led by Muhammad Yunus has established constitutional and election reform commissions for this purpose. Background The Awami League won the 2024 general elections following a record low voter turnout and a controversial election, spite of which they formed a government. The United States Department of State stated that the election was not free and fair and the United Kingdom's Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office termed the election lacking the preconditions of democracy. According to ''The Economist'', through this election, "Bangladesh effectively became a one-party state". Jatiya Sangsad
The Jatiya Sangsad (), often simply referred to as Sangsad and also known as is the unicameral Legislature, legislative body of Bangladesh. The current parliament of Bangladesh contains 350 seats, including 50 seats reserved exclusively for women. Elected occupants are called Member of Parliament (Bangladesh), members of Parliament, or MPs. The 2024 Bangladeshi general election, 12th national parliamentary election was held on 7 January 2024. Elections to the body are held every five years, unless a parliament is dissolved earlier by the President of Bangladesh. Fifth Hasina Ministry
The Fifth Hasina Ministry, the 21st cabinet of Bangladesh, was led by Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina. It was established following the 2024 general election held on 7 January 2024. The election results were declared on the same day, leading to the formation of the 12th assembly in the Jatiya Sangsad. A cabinet comprising 43 members was subsequently sworn in. On 5 August 2024, after days of deadly unrest in the country, Hasina was given an ultimatum by General Waker-uz-Zaman, the Bangladesh Chief of the Army Staff, to resign. Later the same day, she resigned and fled to India. Her rule ended via self-imposed exile following nationwide protests. Anadolu Agency (, ; abbreviated AA) is a state-run news agency headquartered in Ankara, Turkey. History The Anadolu Agency was founded in 1920 during the Turkish War of Independence by the order of Mustafa Kemal Pasha. Bangladesh Nationalist Party
The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (), popularly abbreviated as BNP (), is a major List of political parties in Bangladesh, political party in Bangladesh. It was founded on 1 September 1978 by President of Bangladesh, President Ziaur Rahman, with a view of uniting people with a Bangladeshi nationalism, nationalist ideology. Later, the BNP emerged as one of the two traditionally dominant parties in Bangladesh, along with it's rival, the Awami League.
