2025 Gaza Strip Anti-Hamas Protests
Since 25 March 2025, protests have taken place across the Gaza Strip against Hamas, which has held exclusive control over the territory since 2007. Demonstrators called on Hamas to give up its rule and bring an end to Gaza war, the war with Israel. Many of the protests against Hamas are part of Gaza war protests, wider protests against the Gaza war. The protests appear to be sparked by widespread local War-weariness, war exhaustion and dissatisfaction with the leadership style and tactics of Hamas following March 2025 Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip, Israel's resumption of the Gaza war earlier in the month. Blockade Of The Gaza Strip
The restrictions on movement and goods in Gaza imposed by Israel date to the early 1990s. The 2011–2012 Palestinian protests were a series of protests in the Palestinian National Authority and the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip, staged by various Palestinian groups as part of the wider Arab Spring. The 2019 Gaza economic protests, also called the We Want to Live protests and the 14 March Movement, were a series of protests held in the Gaza Strip from 14 March to 18 March; demonstrators protested high costs of living and tax hikes. 2023 Gaza Economic Protests
In July and August 2023, thousands of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip took to the streets to protest chronic power outages, poor economic conditions in the territory, and Hamas's taxation of stipends to the poor paid by Qatar. October 7 Hamas-led Attack On Israel
On October 7, 2023, Hamas and several other Palestinian militant groups launched coordinated armed incursions from the Gaza Strip into the Gaza envelope of southern Israel, the first invasion of Israeli territory since the 1948 Arab–Israeli War.
