2025 Austrian Darts Open
The 2025 Austrian Darts Open, known as the 2025 Elten Safety Shoes Austrian Darts Open for sponsorship reasons, was a professional darts tournament that took place at the Steiermarkhalle in Premstätten, Austria from 25–27 April 2025. It was the fifth of fourteen PDC European Tour events on the 2025 PDC Pro Tour. It featured a field of 48 players and £175,000 in prize money, with £30,000 going to the winner. Luke Littler won the 2024 Austrian Darts Open, 2024 edition after beating Joe Cullen (darts player), Joe Cullen 8–4 in the final. However, Littler chose not to play in the event, and thus did not defend his title. Martin Schindler won the title, his third on the European Tour, defeating Ross Smith (darts player), Ross Smith 8–4 in the final. Premstätten
Premstätten is since January 2016 a new market town with 5,784 residents (as of 1 January 2016) in Graz-Umgebung District of Styria, Austria. However, it was previously founded in January 2015 as the town name "''Unterpremstätten-Zettling''". The municipality was founded as part of the Styria municipal structural reform, on 31 December 2014, from the dissolved independent municipalities Unterpremstätten and Zettling. Joe Cullen (darts Player)
Joseph Cullen (born 13 July 1989) is an English professional darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events, where he is currently ranked world number twenty-four. Cullen won his first PDC major title at the 2022 Masters, defeating Dave Chisnall in the final, and played at the 2022 Premier League Darts where he finished as runner-up. Cullen has won eleven ranking PDC titles in his professional career. Career Early career Cullen first came to prominence in 2008 when he qualified for the UK Open. He defeated Mark Stapleton and Dennis Smith before Chris Mason defeated him in the last 64. Following his performances at Bolton, he joined the PDC circuit. The PDC Pro Tour is a series of non-televised darts tournaments organised by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). They comprise Professional Dart Players Association (PDPA) Players Championships and European Tour events. Only four players have gone on to win at least 30 titles on the PDC Pro Tour. Michael van Gerwen has won the most Pro Tour titles with 89. Phil Taylor is second on the list winning 70 events. Seeding (sports)
In sport, seeding is the practice of separating the most skilled competitors from each other in the early rounds of a tournament. Players or teams are "planted" into the bracket in such a manner that the best do not meet until later in the competition, usually based on ranking from the regular season. The term was first used in tennis, and is based on the notion of scattering the top players' names across the bracket in the way that a farmer scatters seeds. Sometimes the remaining competitors in a single-elimination tournament will be "re-seeded" so that the highest surviving seed is made to play the lowest surviving seed in the next round, the second-highest plays the second-lowest, etc. This may be done after each round, or only at selected intervals. PDC Order Of Merit
The PDC Order of Merit is a world ranking system used by one of the darts organisations, the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Following the 2007 PDC World Darts Championship it superseded a world ranking system based on points being awarded for performances in ranking tournaments. Ross Smith (born 12 January 1989) is an English professional darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events, where he is currently ranked world number fifteen; he reached a peak ranking of world number nine in 2024.
