2024–25 Australian Baseball League Season
The 2024–25 Australian Baseball League season was the fourteenth season of the Australian Baseball League (ABL), and began on 15 November 2024. The six-team competition is the premier English speaking winter baseball league with players affiliated with Major League Baseball, Nippon Professional Baseball, KBO League, Chinese Professional Baseball League, and various independent baseball leagues. The Canberra Cavalry won their second championship, beating the Perth Heat two games to nil in a best-of-three Championship Series. It is Canberra's first championship since the 2011–12 Australian Baseball League season. Teams Regular Season The regular season began on 15 November 2024 and is scheduled to end on 19 January 2025. Alexander Wells (baseball)
Alexander James Wells (born 27 February 1997) is an Australian professional baseball pitcher for the East Belmont Saints Baseball Club, East Belmont Saints of the Geelong Baseball Association. He has previously played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Baltimore Orioles. Professional career Baltimore Orioles Wells signed with the Baltimore Orioles organization as an international free agent on August 29, 2015. He made his professional debut in 2016 with the Low-A Aberdeen IronBirds, and spent the whole season there, posting a 4–5 record, 2.15 ERA, and a 0.91 WHIP. He spent 2017 with the Single-A Delmarva Shorebirds, pitching to an 11–5 record with a 2.38 ERA in 25 games started. Winning Percentage
In sports, a winning percentage or Copeland score is the fraction of games or matches a team or individual has won. The statistic is commonly used in standings or rankings to compare teams or individuals. It is defined as wins divided by the total number of matches played (i.e. wins plus draws plus losses). Sydney Blue Sox
The Sydney Blue Sox are a professional baseball team, and one of six founding teams in the re-formed Australian Baseball League (ABL). The team plays their home games at Blacktown International Sportspark (BISP), one of the two venues used for baseball at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, when it was known as Blacktown Olympic Park. The Blue Sox hosted the league's Opening Day for the inaugural season on 6 November 2010, when they played against the Canberra Cavalry, and won the game 1–0. The Blue Sox are the only team in the Australian Baseball League to implement sabermetrics as a way to run their team with volunteer statistician, Anthony Rescan. Melbourne Aces
The Melbourne Aces are a professional baseball team based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia that competed in the Australian Baseball League. Their home field is the Melbourne Ballpark in Altona. History On 20 August 2010 it was announced that ex-Australian Baseball player Philip Dale would take up the head coaching role at Melbourne Aces. On 12 October 2010, it was announced by newly appointed General Manager Windsor Knox that the Aces would play home games at a redeveloped Melbourne Showgrounds. The Brisbane Bandits are a professional baseball team in Brisbane, Queensland that plays in the Australian Baseball League and is one of the six founding teams of the league. From the 2010/11 season till the 2012/13 season their home ballpark was the Brisbane Exhibition Ground, the ground which the old Brisbane Bandits played at for the majority of their nine-year tenure. Blacktown International Sportspark (BISP) (officially known as Blacktown Olympic Park) is a multi-sports venue located in Rooty Hill, a suburb in Sydney, Australia. The venue includes two cricket grounds, which have also been used for Australian rules football, an athletics track and field, three baseball diamonds, two soccer fields, four softball diamonds, administration centers and park land. Empire Ballpark
Empire Ballpark is a baseball stadium in Perth, Australia. It was built in 2004, with a seating capacity of 1500 and standing room for a further 2500. This is the first baseball-exclusive stadium in Perth since the demolition of Parry Field in the mid-1990s.
