2024 World Seniors Darts Championship
The 2024 World Seniors Darts Championship was the third World Seniors Darts Championship organized by the World Seniors Darts Tour. The event took place at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet from 15 to 18 February 2024. The event was open to players over the age of 50, with the exception of current PDC Tour Card holders. John Henderson won the title on his debut defeating Colin McGarry 5-0. Prize money The prize fund for the event was £80,000, with £30,000 going to the champion. Circus Tavern
The Circus Tavern is an entertainment venue in Purfleet, Essex, England which hosts functions, cabaret acts and is also a nightclub venue. First opened in 1974, it is most famous as having been a long-time venue of the PDC World Darts Championship. Its capacity is 1100 seated. Darts Championships The Circus Tavern was the venue of the PDC World Darts Championships from its inauguration event in 1994, up until 2007, and broadcast on Sky Sports. Phil Taylor reached the final in all 14 of the PDC World Darts Championship tournaments that were held at the Circus Tavern, winning 11 of those 14 finals. Purfleet
Purfleet-on-Thames is a town in the Thurrock unitary authority, Essex, England. It is bordered by the A13 road to the north and the River Thames to the south and is within the easternmost part of the M25 motorway but just outside the Greater London boundary. A set in darts consists of a sequence of legs (games) played, ending when the count of legs won meets certain criteria. Throwing first is considered an advantage in a leg, so players alternate who throws first in each leg during the set. Generally, a set will consist of the best of five legs (first player to win three) – although there are some exceptions. 2023 World Seniors Darts Championship
The 2023 World Seniors Darts Championship (known for sponsorship reasons as the 2023 JENNINGSbet World Seniors Darts Championship) was the second World Seniors Darts Championship organised by the World Seniors Darts Tour. It took place at the Circus Tavern in Purfleet between 9 and 12 February 2023. The event was open to players over the age of 50, except current PDC Tour Card holders. The tournament was expanded from 24 to 32 players. Robert Thornton, the defending champion after winning the 2022 inaugural tournament, successfully defended his title to become back to back World Senior Champion. Prize money The prize fund for the event was £80,000, with £30,000 going to the champion. Qualifiers The first players announced to take part in the event were Robert Thornton, Phil Taylor, Martin Adams, John Part, Trina Gulliver and Keith Deller. John Henderson (darts Player)
John Henderson (born 4 May 1973) is a Scottish darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. Career Henderson started out in the PDC circuit and played one tournament in Scotland as well as the 2003 UK Open where he lost in the first round, having won his preliminary match. He then qualified for the 2005 BDO World Darts Championship, where he beat Stephen Bunting in the first round before losing in round two to Martin Adams – hitting a record thirteen 180s (for a five-set match) in the 3–2 defeat. Henderson then reached the quarter-finals of the 2005 British Open and the last 32 of the 2005 Winmau World Masters. Henderson reached the final of the 2007 British Open. He beat Tony O'Shea in the quarter finals and Ted Hankey in the semis before losing to Gary Anderson in the final. Colin McGarry
Colin Edward McGarry (born 22 July 1965) is a Northern Irish former professional darts player who played in Professional Darts Corporation tournaments. His the nickname The Chief. Career McGarry qualified for the 2004 PDC World Darts Championship where he beat Rory Orvis 3-0 and Mark Holden 3–0 to reach the third round, losing 4–0 to Phil Taylor. Despite his good showing in Purfleet, McGarry failed to maintain his performances, failing to qualify for the 2006 World Matchplay and the 2006 and 2007 World Championship. McGarry caused a real surprise in the Grand Slam of Darts Wildcard Qualifier where he reached the final, beating Mark Dudbridge and Jamie Caven along the way, but lost in the final to Wes Newton.
