2024 World Matchplay
The 2024 Betfred World Matchplay was the 31st annual staging of the World Matchplay, organised by the Professional Darts Corporation. The tournament took place at the Winter Gardens, Blackpool, from 13 to 21 July 2024. Nathan Aspinall was the defending champion, having defeated Jonny Clayton 18–6 in the 2023 final, but he was eliminated in the second round, losing 11–8 to James Wade. Luke Humphries won his first World Matchplay title, beating Michael van Gerwen 18–15 in the final. He became the fourth player to win the World Darts Championship and the World Matchplay in the same year after Phil Taylor, Michael van Gerwen and Peter Wright and only the second player after Phil Taylor to average more than 100 in all five matches on the way to the title. Winter Gardens, Blackpool
The Winter Gardens is a large entertainment complex in Blackpool, Lancashire, England, which includes a theatre, ballroom and conference facilities. Opened in 1878, it is a Grade II* listed building, operated by Blackpool Entertainment Company Limited on behalf of Blackpool Council, which purchased the property from Leisure Parcs Ltd as part of a £40 million deal in 2010. The Winter Gardens has hosted the annual Trades Union Congress, the Conservative Party Conference (UK), Conservative Party Conference, Labour Party Conference, and the twice-annual Liberal Democrat Conference. Phil Taylor (darts Player)
Philip Douglas Taylor (born 13 August 1960) is an English former professional darts player. Nicknamed "the Power", he dominated darts across three decades and is widely considered the greatest darts player of all time, having won 214 professional tournaments, including a record 87 major titles and a record 16 World Professional Darts Championship, World Championships. In 2015, the BBC rated Taylor among the ten greatest British sportsmen of the last 35 years. Taylor took up darts seriously in his mid-twenties and was sponsored and mentored in his early professional career by five-time world champion Eric Bristow. 2024 In English Sport
4 (four) is a number, numeral and digit. It is the natural number following 3 and preceding 5. It is a square number, the smallest semiprime and composite number, and is considered unlucky in many East Asian cultures. Evolution of the Hindu-Arabic digit Brahmic numerals represented 1, 2, and 3 with as many lines. 4 was simplified by joining its four lines into a cross that looks like the modern plus sign. High Dart Average
The three-dart average in darts is the average of the total score achieved with each turn of three darts. Averages are the most cited statistics in matches as they give a rough estimate of a player's form. The longer a match lasts, the harder it is to maintain a high average, as low-scoring legs or missed darts when aiming for a double bring the average down. While there have been match averages of over 130 in floor tournaments, the world record only lists televised matches, which are easy to verify. Definition To compute the average score of a dart the total amount of points scored is divided by the number of darts thrown. This is sometimes used and called the one-dart average. The three-dart average then is just that number multiplied by three. Luke Woodhouse
Luke Woodhouse (born 13 October 1988), nicknamed "Woody", is an English professional darts player who competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events. A PDC Tour Card holder since 2018, Woodhouse reached his first major quarter-final at the 2023 Players Championship Finals. He reached his first major semi-final at the 2024 European Championship. Ritchie Edhouse
Ritchie Edhouse (born 19 April 1983) is an English professional darts player who plays in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events, where he is currently ranked world number twenty-seven. He won his first major title at the 2024 European Championship, defeating Jermaine Wattimena 11–3 in the final. Ricardo Pietreczko (born 20 October 1994) is a German professional darts player. Nicknamed "Pikachu" after the character from ''Pokémon'', he competes in Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) events, where he is currently ranked world number twenty-nine. 2024 PDC Pro Tour
The 2024 PDC Pro Tour was a series of non-televised darts tournaments organised by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Players Championships and European Tour events are the events that make up the Pro Tour. There were thirty Players Championship events and thirteen PDC European Tour events, as well as 24 events for the Challenge and Development Tours, and the Women's Series. Dave Chisnall topped the 2024 Pro Tour Order of Merit, with Luke Littler, Luke Humphries, Stephen Bunting and Ryan Searle completing the top five. PDC Order Of Merit
The PDC Order of Merit is a world ranking system used by one of the darts organisations, the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). Following the 2007 PDC World Darts Championship it superseded a world ranking system based on points being awarded for performances in ranking tournaments.
