2024 Washington Public Lands Commissioner Election
The 2024 Washington Public Lands Commissioner election will be held on November 5, 2024. The top-two primary will be held on August 6. Incumbent Public Lands Commissioner Hillary Franz, elected in 2016 and reelected in 2020, is not seeking re-election to a third term in office. She instead chose to run for governor, later dropping out of that race to instead run for U.S. House. Primary elections will take place on August 6, 2024. Hilary Franz
Hilary S. Franz (born July 1, 1970) is an American politician and conservation attorney serving as the 16th Washington State Commissioner of Public Lands since 2017. She is a member of the Democratic Party who was previously a member of the Bainbridge Island city council and was elected as commissioner in 2016. Early life and education Franz was born in the Pacific Northwest and raised in the area, graduating from St. Mary's Academy in Portland, Oregon, in 1988. She was a competitive ice skater for twelve years as a child and teenager, frequenting the same ice rinks as future Olympian Tonya Harding. Franz graduated from Smith College with a bachelor's degree in English language and government in 1992 and the Northeastern University School of Law with a juris doctor. Washington's 37th legislative district is one of forty-nine districts in Washington state for representation in the state legislature. The district encompasses Beacon Hill, Central District, Rainier Valley, Columbia City, Rainier Beach, and Renton. The district's legislators are state senator Rebecca Saldaña and state representatives Sharon Tomiko Santos (position 1) and Kirsten Harris-Talley (position 2), all Democrats. Latino Victory is an American progressive initiative founded in 2014 by Henry R. Muñoz III and actress Eva Longoria.
