2024 Speedway Of Nations 2
The 2024 Speedway of Nations 2 (SON2) was the 20th Team Under-21 World Championship season, organised by the FIM. The event took place on 12 July 2024 at the National Speedway Stadium in Manchester, England. The competition was won by Poland. Sweden finished second ahead of Australia on countback, while hosts Great Britain ended up just outside of the medals in fourth position. National Speedway Stadium
The National Speedway Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium on Kirkmanshulme Lane, in Gorton, Manchester, England and is the home of the Belle Vue Aces and Belle Vue Colts speedway teams and the Manchester Titans American football team. Origins and opening In 2007, Chris Morton and David Gordon proposed that a new stadium should be built that could be used as the home for the Belle Vue Aces and be used as a national speedway stadium. Seven years later in September 2014, the planning application for the Stadium was approved by Manchester City Council. The planned site on Kirkmanshulme Lane was previously a grassed area containing hockey pitches. Construction on the National Speedway Stadium started in October 2014 and it opened in March 2016 as part of the Belle Vue's £11 million regeneration scheme. Team Speedway Junior World Championship
The Team Speedway Under-21 World Championship is a speedway competition to determine the World Championship for national Under-21 teams. The sport's equivalent of the Under-21 World Cup in football, as of 2022 the title is awarded to the winners of SON2, the Under-21 division of the Speedway of Nations. The first edition of the competition was in 2005 prior to its incorporation with the Speedway of Nations. Poland has dominated the competition winning the title record 15 times. Previous winners Classification Rules Eligibility The minimum age limit (16 years) starts on the date of the rider's birthday and the maximum age limit (21 years) finishes at the end of the year in which they reach 21 years old. 2024 SGP2
The 2024 SGP2 series will be the 48th edition of the FIM Individual Under-21 World Championship. It will once again be staged as the SGP2 class of the FIM Speedway Grand Prix series after rights holders Discovery Sports Events took over promotional rights of the competition in 2022. The three qualifying rounds were staged at Mâcon, Terenzano and Ludwigslust on 8 June. Participant riders were named by national federations, with a pre-qualifier staged by the DMU for Danish riders and the Polish Silver Helmet acting as a qualifier for Polish riders. The top four riders from each qualifying meeting progressed to the main SGP2 series. Villads Nagel, Bartosz Bańbor and Mikkel Andersen were then named as the three permanent wildcards by the SGP Commission, joining the 12 qualifiers in the main series.
