The 2024 Sikkim Legislative Assembly elections is scheduled to be held on or before April 2024 to elect the 32 members of the 11th Sikkim Assembly. Background The tenure of Sikkim Legislative Assembly is scheduled to end on 2 June 2024. The previous assembly elections were held in April 2019. Sikkim Legislative Assembly
The Sikkim Legislative Assembly is the unicameral state legislature of Sikkim state in north-eastern India. The seat of the Legislative Assembly is at Gangtok, the capital of the Sikkim state. History Sikkim became the 22nd state of India by the 36th Amendment of the Indian Constitution in 1975. The Act provides that the Legislative Assembly of Sikkim shall consist of not less than thirty two members and that "the Assembly of Sikkim formed as a result of the elections held in Sikkim in April 1974 with 32 members elected in the said elections (hereinafter referred to as the sitting members) shall be deemed to be the legislative Assembly of the State of Sikkim duly constituted under the Constitution." Sikkim Republican Party (SRP) is a regional political party (State Party (Unrecognized)) in the Indian state of Sikkim. Founder and incumbent president is Kharka Bahadur Rai (K.B. Rai). Election symbol is Flute. History On February 27, 2017, K.B. Rai launched a new political party, Sikkim Republican Party (SRP) at Jorethang, South Sikkim. K.B. Rai is former President of Sikkim Gorkha Jagaran Sangh which advocates the expansion of the interests for Gorkha ethnic group of Sikkim. On February 22, 2019, SRP was allotted the flute as party's symbol by ECI for the 2019 Sikkim Legislative Assembly Election (32 constituencies).
