2024 Reading Borough Council Election
The 2024 Reading Borough Council election took place on 2 May 2024 to elect members of Reading Borough Council in Berkshire, England. This was on the same day as other local elections. Summary Prior to the election, the council was under Labour majority control. The leader of the council, Jason Brock, did not stand for re-election in 2024. The election saw Labour retain its majority on the council. Following the election, Labour chose Liz Terry to be their new group leader. She was formally appointed as leader of the council at the subsequent annual council meeting on 22 May 2024. Election result Ward results The Statement of Persons Nominated, which details the candidates standing in each ward, was released by Reading Borough Council following the close of nominations on 8 April 2024. Reading Borough Council
Reading Borough Council is the local authority for Reading in the county of Berkshire, England. Reading has had a council since at least 1542, which has been reformed on numerous occasions. Since 1998, the council has been a unitary authority, being a district council which also performs the functions of a county council. The council has been under Labour majority control since 2012. It is based at the Civic Offices on Bridge Street in the town centre. History The town of Reading was an ancient borough, being described as a borough by the time of the Domesday Book in 1086. The borough was initially controlled by Reading Abbey, but the town gradually gained a degree of independence from the abbey from the thirteenth century onwards. 2024 United Kingdom Local Elections
The 2024 United Kingdom local elections took place on 2 May 2024 to choose 2,658 councillors on 107 councils in England, 11 directly elected mayors in England, the 25 members of the London Assembly, and 37 police and crime commissioners in England and Wales. The 2024 Blackpool South parliamentary by-election was held on the same day. These local elections were the last set of routine elections before the general election. This election cycle returned to its usual four-year cycle after the majority of these elections were last held in the 2021 local elections, having been delayed by a year from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The results were a strong showing for the Labour Party, who finished first at the expense of the governing Conservative Party, who finished third and suffered their worst local election defeat since 1996, losing over 400 council seats. Reading Borough Council is the council for the unitary authority of Reading in Berkshire, England. Until 1 April 1998 it was a non-metropolitan district. Since the last boundary changes in 2022 the council has comprised 48 councillors representing 16 wards, with each ward electing three councillors. 2024 English Local Elections
4 (four) is a number, numeral and digit. It is the natural number following 3 and preceding 5. It is a square number, the smallest semiprime and composite number, and is considered unlucky in many East Asian cultures.
