2024 Q School
The 2024 Q School was a series of four snooker tournaments held at the start of the 2024–25 snooker season. An event for amateur players, it served as a qualification event for a place on the professional World Snooker Tour for the following two seasons. The events took place in May and June 2024 at the Morningside Arena in Leicester, England and also at the BSAT Academy in Bangkok, Thailand with a total 12 players qualifying via the four tournaments. The two events held in England were organised by the World Snooker Tour, whilst those in Thailand were organised by the Billiard Sports Association of Thailand. The series was shown live on Facebook and Youtube, the first time the Q School had been streamed. Q School (snooker)
The Q School is an amateur snooker competition which serves as the qualification school for the World Snooker Tour. Overview Q School is established in 2011 as an attempt to streamline the qualification process and is held annually before the start of the professional season, where amateurs and ex-professionals who dropped out of the top 64 in Snooker world rankings, world rankings in previous seasons can compete for a two-year tour card to play on the Main Tour. It replaced the amateur tournament International Open Series, the former second-tier snooker series organised by the English Association of Snooker and Billiards (EASB). In 2022, a Q School branch in Bangkok was established for entrants from the Asia-Oceania region. 2 qualifying places were awarded to the winners whilst discontinuing qualification through Standings (sports), Order of Merit in Q School Europe. Farakh Ajaib
Farakh Ajaib (born 3 February 1991) is a British Pakistani professional snooker player from Lancashire. Career In 2018, Ajaib was crowned the inaugural East Lancashire Snooker Championship winner. He was a ‘top-up’ player for several main tour events in 2018/19 – reward for a solid 2018 Q School campaign. At the third event of the 2020 Q School at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield, Ajaib clinched a two-year Tour Card on to the 2020–21 and 2021–22 snooker seasons. At the 2020 English Open, Ajaib defeated Rod Lawler 4–0 before losing 4–3 to Zhou Yuelong in a close match described as a “marathon”. Competing at the 2022 European Masters in August, 2022 Ajaib lost to Judd Trump in a deciding frame in a last 16 match in which Ajaib had trailed 4–2 but had left Trump needing three snookers at 4–4. Mark Joyce
Mark Joyce (born 11 August 1983) is an English former professional snooker player who lives in Walsall. He began his professional career by playing on the Challenge Tour in 2003. Joyce enjoyed an outstanding amateur career, winning the European Under-19 Championship in 2001, the English Open in 2005 and the English Amateur Championship in 2006, beating Martin O'Donnell 8–3 in the final. Joyce also finished fifth in the 2005/06 Pontin's International Open Series, winning the second of eight events, to book a place on Main Tour. Career 2006/07 season Joyce had a very uneventful first season on Main Tour, failing to qualify for any of the major events. He ended the season losing in the penultimate qualifying round of the World Championship to Fergal O'Brien 10–4. He also recorded his highest break of 130 in professional play during the qualifiers. Florian Nüßle
Florian Nüßle (born 18 December 2001) is an Austrian professional snooker player from Graz. In 2017, aged 16, he became his country's youngest national snooker champion. In March 2025, he won his Q Tour Playoff to gain a two-year professional tour card starting from the 2025–26 season, becoming the first professional snooker player from Austria. Career National tournaments Florian Nüßle became interested in snooker as a child and played pool with a standing aid when he was five years old. He also played football in his youth for five years for SK Sturm Graz, and golf, but ultimately opted for snooker. Gao Yang ( zh, s=高阳; born 5 September 2004) is a Chinese professional snooker player. Career Gao Yang started playing on the Chinese tour aged just 13, and was quickly accepted by the CBSA Academy. He played in the ACBS Asian Under-21 Snooker Championship in 2018 and 2019, the IBSF World Under-21 Snooker Championship and IBSF World Under-18 Snooker Championship also in 2018 and 2019. His only real success came in the 2019 IBSF World Under-18 Snooker Championship, where he reached the final, losing 5–2 to the 13-year old Jiang Jun. His first taste of professional snooker came at the 2019 World Open, where he was a wildcard.
