2024 Missouri Attorney General Election
The 2024 Missouri Attorney General election will be held on November 5, 2024, to elect the attorney general of the state of Missouri. It will coincide with the concurrent presidential election, as well as various state and local elections, including for U.S. Senate, U.S. House, and governor of Missouri. When incumbent attorney general Eric Schmitt was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2022, Missouri governor Mike Parson announced that he would appoint his general counsel, Andrew Bailey, to succeed Schmitt. Andrew Bailey (politician)
Andrew Bailey (born 1981) is an American attorney and politician who currently serves as the Missouri Attorney General, an office he assumed by appointment in January 2023. Education Bailey earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Missouri and a Juris Doctor from the University of Missouri School of Law. Career After earning his bachelor's degree, Bailey joined the United States Army as an officer. During his military career, he was deployed to Iraq. After graduating from law school, Bailey served as an assistant prosecuting attorney in the Warren County Prosecuting Attorney's Office and as general counsel of the Missouri Department of Corrections. Bailey joined the office of Governor Mike Parson as deputy general counsel in 2019 and became general counsel in 2021. The Missouri House of Representatives is the lower chamber of the Missouri General Assembly. It has 163 members, representing districts with an average size of 37,000 residents. House members are elected for two-year terms during general elections held in even-numbered years. Sarah Unsicker
Sarah Unsicker (born May 3, 1976) is an American politician who has served in the Missouri House of Representatives first elected from the 91st district in 2016, and after redistricting in 2022, from district 83. She was a candidate in the 2024 Missouri Attorney General election, however withdrew before the primary. She has since announced her candidacy in the 2024 Missouri gubernatorial election. Career Unsicker was removed from all her committees in 2023 after she repeatedly posted a photo on social media of herself with far-right activist Charles C. Johnson, who has denied the Holocaust. Johnson later accused two of Unsicker's opponents in the attorney general election, one Democrat and one Republican who are both American Jews, of conspiracy and dual loyalty with Israel.
