2024 LCS Season
The 2024 LCS season was the 12th, and final, season of the League Championship Series (LCS), a North American professional esports league for the video game ''League of Legends''. The season was divided into two splits: Spring and Summer. The Spring Split ran from January 20 to March 31, 2024. For the first time since 2014, the league had eight teams competing instead of 10. League changes Teams Following the 2023 season, TSM sold their LCS franchise slot to Shopify Rebellion. In addition, on November 19, 2023, Golden Guardians and Evil Geniuses exited the LCS, as their third-party administrator agreement with Riot Games was terminated. With not enough time to fill the two vacancies, the league announced that they would continue with eight teams for the 2024 season. The 2024 season marks the first time in a decade that the LCS had only eight teams competing in the league. League Championship Series (esports)
The League Championship Series (LCS) was the top level of professional ''League of Legends'' in the United States and Canada. The esports league was run by Riot Games and had anywhere from eight to 10 teams. Each annual season of competition was divided into two splits, spring and summer, which concluded with a double-elimination tournament between the top teams. At the end of the season, the winner, runners-up and third-place team of the summer playoffs qualified for the annual ''League of Legends'' World Championship. Established in 2013, the league was initially split into two regions: the European League of Legends Championship Series (EU LCS) and the North American League of Legends Championship Series (NA LCS). Philippe Laflamme, better known as Vulcan, is a Canadians, Canadian professional ''League of Legends'' support for Cloud9 League of Legends, Cloud9, in the League of Legends Championship of The Americas (LTA) North Conference. Previously, Vulcan had played for Clutch Gaming, the team that drafted him in the League Championship Series (esports), League Championship Series (LCS), Evil Geniuses, and FlyQuest. Nicolaj Jensen, better known mononymously as Jensen, is a Danish professional ''League of Legends'' player for Dignitas. Earlier in his career, he was known as Veigodx and Incarnati0n. Jensen began as a player for Team Solo Mebdi, a team attempting to enter the European LCS via qualifier. He was banned for toxicity and DDOS attacks against other players. Robert Huang (born January 4, 2000), better known as Blaber, is an American professional ''League of Legends'' player for Cloud9. Blaber is considered by many to be one of the best ''League of Legends'' players from North America. Gabriël Rau (born 24 December 1998), better known as Bwipo, is a Belgian-Brazilian professional ''League of Legends'' player for FlyQuest. He currently plays in the LTA North Conference, and has previously competed in the LEC for Fnatic, where his team was the runner-up of the 2018 League of Legends World Championship, as well as the LCS, the predecessor to the LTA North. The 2024 Mid-Season Invitational was the ninth Mid-Season Invitational (MSI), a Riot Games-organised tournament for ''League of Legends'', a multiplayer online battle arena video game. The tournament was hosted in Chengdu, China, from May 1 to 19, 2024. All stages of the tournament were played at the . Immortals is a professional esports organization based in the United States owned by Immortals Gaming Club. It was founded on October 7, 2015, after the acquisition of Team 8's LCS spot. Dignitas is an American esports organization based in Newark, New Jersey. It was founded by Michael "ODEE" O'Dell in 2003 as a merger of two '' Battlefield 1942'' clans. Dignitas was acquired by the Philadelphia 76ers in 2016 and is now a part of parent company Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE).
