2024 Irish General Election
The 2024 Irish general election to elect the 34th Dáil took place on Friday, 29 November 2024, following the dissolution of parliament, dissolution of the 33rd Dáil on 8 November by president of Ireland, President Michael D. Higgins at the request of Taoiseach Simon Harris. Polls were open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m Coordinated Universal Time, UTC. It elected 174 Teachta Dála, Teachtaí Dála (TDs) across 43 Dáil constituencies, constituencies of between 3 and 5 seats to Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Oireachtas, Republic of Ireland, Ireland's legislature. Under the Electoral (Amendment) Act 2023, the number of TDs was increased from 160 to 174, making it the largest Dáil in the history of the state, with an increase in the number of constituencies from 39 to 43. Percentage Point
A percentage point or percent point is the unit (measurement), unit for the difference (mathematics), arithmetic difference between two percentages. For example, moving up from 40 percent to 44 percent is an increase of 4 percentage points (although it is a 10-percent increase in the quantity being measured, if the total amount remains the same). Cork South-West is a parliamentary constituency represented in Dáil Éireann, the lower house of the Irish parliament or Oireachtas. Taoiseach
The Taoiseach (, ) is the head of government or prime minister of Republic of Ireland, Ireland. The office is appointed by the President of Ireland upon nomination by Dáil Éireann (the lower house of the Oireachtas, Ireland's national legislature) and the office-holder must retain the support of a majority in the Dáil to remain in office. 2024 Irish General Election, Seats Per Constituency
4 (four) is a number, numeral and digit. It is the natural number following 3 and preceding 5. It is a square number, the smallest semiprime and composite number, and is considered unlucky in many East Asian cultures. Evolution of the Hindu-Arabic digit Brahmic numerals represented 1, 2, and 3 with as many lines. 4 was simplified by joining its four lines into a cross that looks like the modern plus sign. 2024 Green Party Leadership Elections (Ireland)
Leadership elections occurred in Ireland's Green Party in July 2024, after Eamon Ryan announced his intention to resign as party leader. Ryan, who had led the party since 2011, announced his resignation on 18 June 2024. Following the announcement, deputy leader Catherine Martin announced she would be stepping down as deputy leader, triggering a deputy leadership election. The election was held online over three days. Roderic O'Gorman won the election and became leader of the party on 8 July 2024. Of the 3,425 votes available, O'Gorman received 984 votes, while Hackett received 912. The party's deputy leadership election was held on 14 July 2024, and was subsequently won by Róisín Garvey. Roderic O'Gorman
Roderic O'Gorman (born 12 December 1981) is an Irish Green Party politician who has served as leader of the Green Party since July 2024. He has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Dublin West constituency since 2020. He previously served as Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth from 2020 to 2025 and chair of the Green Party from 2011 to 2019. Peadar Tóibín
Peadar Tóibín (; born 19 June 1974) is an Irish politician who has served as leader of Aontú since January 2019. He has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Meath West constituency since 2011. He previously served as Chair of the Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs from 2016 to 2018. He founded Aontú in January 2019. Michael Collins (born 26 February 1968) is an Irish politician who has been a Teachta Dála (TD) for the Cork South-West constituency since the 2016 general election. Collins is the leader of the Independent Ireland political party, which was founded in November 2023. Political career He served as a member of Cork County Council from 2014 to 2016.
