2024 IIHF World Championship Division II
The 2024 IIHF World Championship Division II will be an international ice hockey tournament run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Group A tournament will be held in Belgrade, Serbia from 21 to 27 April and the Group B tournament in Sofia, Bulgaria from 22 to 28 April 2024. Group A tournament The IIHf temporarily indicated that Israel would not participate, but two days later clarified that they will consider their participation in upcoming tournaments on a case by case basis. 2023 IIHF World Championship Division II
The 2023 IIHF World Championship Division II were two international ice hockey tournaments run by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The Group A tournament was held in Madrid, Spain from 16 to 22 April and the Group B tournament in Istanbul, Turkey from 17 to 23 April 2023. Spain won the Group A tournament and got promoted, while Iceland finished last, but Georgia was later disqualified by the IIHF and relegated. The United Arab Emirates won Group B and got promoted and Mexico was relegated. Group A tournament Participants Match officials Four referees and seven linesmen were selected for the tournament. Standings After the tournament, it was determined that Georgia's entire team were Russian nationals, meaning they were ineligible. The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF; french: Fédération internationale de hockey sur glace; german: Internationale Eishockey-Föderation) is a worldwide governing body for ice hockey. The IIHF World Championship Division II are an annual sports event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. The division championships are played in two groups, part of the Ice Hockey World Championships From 2001 until 2011, the two national teams that finished last in their groups in Division I were relegated to Division II for next year's World Championships. At the Division II Championship, the winner of each group was promoted to next year's Division I, while the loser of each group was relegated to the IIHF World Championship Division III.
