The 2024 English Open (officially the 2024 BetVictor English Open) was a professional snooker tournament that took place from 12 to 22 September 2024 at the Brentwood Centre in Brentwood, Essex, Brentwood, England. It was the fourth Snooker world rankings, ranking event of the 2024–25 snooker season, 202425 season (following the 2024 Saudi Arabia Snooker Masters and preceding the 2024 British Open) and the first of four tournaments in the season's Home Nations Series (preceding the 2024 Northern Ireland Open, the 2024 Scottish Open (snooker), 2024 Scottish Open, and the 2025 Welsh Open (snooker), 2025 Welsh Open). The event was broadcast by Eurosport and Discovery+ in Europe (including the United Kingdom and Ireland) and by other broadcasters internationally. The winner received £100,000 from a total prize fund of £550,400, the Steve Davis trophy, and a place in the 2024 Champion of Champions invitational event. BetVictor, founded in 1946, is an online gambling company based in Gibraltar, owned by British businessman and racehorse owner Michael Tabor. It provides services such as sports betting and online casinos. The Home Nations Series, also known as the BetVictor Home Nations Series for sponsorship reasons, is a snooker tournament series in the four home nations of the United Kingdom. It began in the 2016–17 snooker season, combining two existing tournaments, the Scottish Open and Welsh Open, with two newly created tournaments, the English Open and Northern Ireland Open. History On 29 April 2015, Barry Hearn, chairman of World Snooker announced that from the 2016–17 snooker season on, a "Home Nations Series" would be added to the season's calendar. The Home Nations Series includes the tournaments of the four individual countries of the home of snooker: the English Open, the Northern Ireland Open, the Scottish Open and the Welsh Open. John Higgins
John Higgins (born 18 May 1975) is a Scottish professional snooker player from Wishaw in North Lanarkshire. Since turning professional in 1992, he has won 33 ranking titles, placing him in third position on the List of snooker players by number of ranking titles, all-time list of ranking event winners, behind Ronnie O'Sullivan (41) and Stephen Hendry (36).
