Spruce Creek Fire
The Spruce Creek Fire was a wildfire that burned in Montezuma County, in the U.S. State of Colorado. It was active from May 14 until May 31, 2024, when it was declared 100% contained. It was the first fire of the 2024 Colorado wildfire season, and is currently the 2nd-largest as of August 2. Progression The fire started on May 14, approximately 11 miles northeast of Dolores. From then to May 22, the fire rapidly spread, reaching 1,644 and then1,867 acres in coverage by the late hours of May 22. 172 personnel were assigned to the fire. Firefighters secured northern and western fire perimeters, and protected historic sites threatened by the fire. By May 23, the fire had reached 4,672 acres, and on May 24, the fire had rapidly grown to 5,699 acres, its maximum size. Firefighters shifted to containment of the fire on roads, and two aerial ignition teams were put into place to aid with the task. Bucktail Fire
The Bucktail Fire was a wildfire in August 2024 that has burned through of land in Montrose County in the U.S. state of Colorado. It began on August 1. It is currently the second-largest wildfire to ignite during the 2024 Colorado wildfire season. Local law enforcement criminally charged a man with accidentally starting the fire during an attempt to cremate his dog. Progression The fire started at 11:30 AM on August 1 approximately six miles north of Nucla, and by August 2 the fire had reached . It was observed burning into pine groves and other forested areas that were unpopulated. Later on August 2, the fire had again grown to , and a helitack was assigned to extinguish the fire. By the evening of August 3, the fire had reached 5% containment while a total of 144 personnel worked to contain the fire. The 2024 Texas wildfires was a series of wildfires that burned throughout the U.S. state of Texas during 2024. The 2024 Texas wildfires were marked by several major fires, including the Smokehouse Creek Fire in the Texas panhandle and part of Oklahoma. The Smokehouse Creek Fire burned an estimated in Texas and Oklahoma and was completely contained on March 16, becoming the second largest fire in US history dating back to 1988. It started on Monday, February 26, one mile north of Stinnett in Hutchinson County, Texas. Other fires include the Windy Deuce Fire, which also started on February 26. Moffat County is a county located in the U.S. state of Colorado. As of the 2020 census, the population was 13,292. The county seat is Craig. With an area of 4,751 square miles, it is the 2nd largest county by area in Colorado, behind Las Animas County.
