2024 Allenby Bridge Shooting
On the morning of September 8, 2024, a Jordanian truck driver carried out a shooting attack at the border terminal adjacent to the Allenby Bridge connecting Jordan to the Israeli-occupied West Bank, killing three Israeli civilian border workers. The truck driver approached Israeli staff at the terminal and then opened fire, killing three. The perpetrator was shot and killed by Israeli security forces. Following the attack, Israel identified the three victims as workers at the border terminal and residents of Israeli settlements in the West Bank. Jordan identified the attacker as one of its citizens, named Maher Al-Jazy, a lone perpetrator from Al-Ḥuseīniyah, southern Jordan, while condemning attacks against civilians and calling for de-escalation. The Allenby Bridge (), known officially in Jordan as the King Hussein Bridge (), is a bridge that crosses the Jordan River near the city of Jericho in the Israeli-occupied West Bank and the town of Al-Karameh in Jordan. The bridge is currently the only official border crossing between the West Bank and Jordan, and is the sole designated exit/entry point for West Bank Palestinians travelling abroad by land. The Island of Peace massacre was a high-profile shooting attack that took place on 13 March 1997, when a Jordanian soldier opened fire on a group of young Israeli schoolgirls and their teacher at the Island of Peace. Seven of the girls were killed, while five more and the teacher were injured; all of the girls in the group were aged 13–14. The perpetrator of the attack was Ahmad Daqamseh, a corporal serving in the Royal Jordanian Army.
