2023–24 United Rugby Championship
The 2023–24 United Rugby Championship was the 23rd season of the professional rugby union competition known as the United Rugby Championship, and the third season under that name. It began on 21 October 2023 and ended on 22 June 2024. The reigning and defending champions were Munster, who defeated Stormers in the 2023 final. Glasgow Warriors claimed the 2023–24 championship, defeating the Bulls in the grand final for their second overall championship. Format The season consisted of 21 rounds: 18 rounds of regular season play, followed by three rounds of play-offs. The winner of each Shield was determined solely from the games played amongst the teams within their regional pool, mirroring the format of the old Interprovincial Championship in Ireland. Glasgow Warriors
The Glasgow Warriors are a professional rugby union side from Scotland. The team plays in the United Rugby Championship league and in the European Professional Club Rugby tournaments. In the 2014–15 season they won the Pro12 title and became the first Scottish team to win a major trophy in rugby union's professional era. In 2023-24 they became the first Scottish side to win the United Rugby Championship in its current form. Michele Lamaro
Michele Lamaro (born 3 June 1998) is an Italian professional rugby union player who plays as a flanker for United Rugby Championship club Benetton and captains the Italy national team. At international level, Lamaro made his test debut against France during the Autumn Nations Cup. He has previously played for clubs such as Primavera, Lazio, and Petrarca in the past. Early life Gianluca, Lamaro's father, competed for Italy in sailing at the Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988. He was raised ten minutes from Stadio Olimpico and is a native of Rome. Lamaro played for Primavera in his brother's footsteps before gaining a transfer to Lazio and later Petrarca. The Sportsground
Dexcom Stadium (formerly The Sportsground) is the home of Connacht Rugby. It opened in 1927 and has been used to host Connacht Rugby matches since. Dexcom Stadium is able to hold up to 8,129 people without temporary seating. When Greyhound racing in Ireland, greyhound racing takes place at the stadium and adjoining premises, they trade as the Galway Greyhound Stadium. History 20th Century In 1928, the Sports Ground or the Sports Field as it was also known opened. The first rugby team to use the ground was Galwegians RFC who used the ground after moving from the Grammar School grounds. Jack Carty (born 31 August 1992) is a rugby union player from Ireland. His primary position is at fly-half. Having started with his hometown club, Buccaneers, Carty currently plays for the team of his native province of Connacht in the United Rugby Championship, having come through the team's academy. He is Connacht's all-time leading points scorer. Carty is an international, having made his debut for the side against in 2019. Connacht Rugby is one of the four professional provincial men's rugby union, rugby teams from the island of Ireland. Cardiff Arms Park (), also known as The Arms Park, is primarily a rugby union stadium, and also has a bowling green. It is situated in Cardiff, Wales, next to the Millennium Stadium. Joshua Turnbull (born 12 March 1988) is a Welsh former professional rugby union player, who played in the back row and second row. He played for the Scarlets and Cardiff Rugby in the United Rugby Championship, and at club level for Carmarthen Quins, Llanelli and Llandovery. Matt Sherratt is an English professional rugby union coach. He is currently the head coach of Cardiff Rugby who play in the United Rugby Championship competition, and currently interim coach of the Welsh national rugby union team. Cardiff Rugby () are one of the four professional Welsh rugby union teams. Based in Cardiff, the team play at Cardiff Arms Park. Loftus Versfeld Stadium is a rugby stadium situated in the suburb of Arcadia, city of Pretoria in the Gauteng province of South Africa, owned by the Blue Bulls Rugby Union. Ruan Nortjé (born 25 July 1998) is a South African professional rugby union who as of 2025 plays for the in the United Rugby Championship and the in the Currie Cup. His regular position is lock. Rugby career Nortjé grew up in Pretoria and represented his local at the Under-18 Academy Week in 2016. He joined the Blue Bulls academy after school, and played for their Under-19 team in 2017. In 2018, Nortjé was included in the South Africa Under-20 squad for the 2018 World Rugby Under 20 Championship.
